Denny Premier A

Listowel Celtic-1

Fenit Samphires-1

Ryan Dolan

Our seniors were held to a draw by a resolute Listowel Celtic team on Sunday morning. As always the pitch in Listowel was immaculate which suited our possession game. We dominated possession for most of the game with our opponents difficult to break down but we lacked the cutting edge we usually have in the final third. Our front four of Jack Savage, Bobby O’Regan, Ryan Dolan and Bill Mullins weren’t being afforded much time on the ball as we tried time and again to force a way through, but to no avail. Eoghan O’Brien hadn’t been tested in goals before we conceded a penalty midway through the half when Darren Lynch was harshly adjudged to handle the ball in the area. Luckily for us, the spot kick missed the target. 0-0 at half time.

The second period continued in the same vein as we built possession through our back four of Ruairi Kelly, Darren Lynch, Rob Prendeville and Sean Foley. In midfield Peter McCarthy and Daniel Clinton were dominant but we still couldn’t find a way to goal. We conceded late in the half when we lost possession and our opponents punished us to full effect. Unsurprisingly, conceding the goal seemed to give us more impetus in our play as we looked for an equaliser. And it came shortly after when Ryan Dolan finished through a host of players after he picked up a loose ball following a corner kick. We introduced Pa McCarthy to add some fresh legs and he stretched the opponents back four with some clever running. Unfortunately we couldn’t find a winner and the game ended as a stalemate.

Thanks to Listowel for a sporting game and thanks to Kevin O’Regan who refereed the game excellently throughout.
