Senior Greyhound Bar Cup Killorglin 3 v 1 Samphires (Scorer Ryan Downey)

We made our exit from the Greyhound Bar Cup in Killorglin last Sunday morning, a disappointing defeat against a team from the division below us. We started well taking the lead through Ryan Downey who converted a free kick after 2 minutes. We didn’t push on and allowed Killorglin into the game and after 20 minutes they duly equalised. We lost a player soon after to a red card for a high tackle and this took the wind from our sails. In the second half we conceded a second but this roused our lads who then dominated the game pushing on for a goal and Killorglin sat back against this onslaught playing on the counter. With 10 to go we forced a good chance but hit the post and within seconds Killorglin went up the pitch to score again which finished the game as a contest.

We now have to redouble our efforts for the remaining games in the league and get another few points on the board to make sure that we preserve our place in the top division for next season, so lots still to play for.

U14 Girls Samphires 0 – 6 Listowel Celtic
The U14s girls played Listowel Celtic at Samphire Park last Friday evening in the 1st round of the cup. Unfortunately we lost the game but matched this experienced team for long periods of the game. During the 2nd half we had some good scoring oppurtunites and were unlucky not to convert a number of them. Again, as with many games this season final scoreline did not reflect nature of game. Our player of the game was Katie Hussey who had a tremendous game at the back and gave great leadership throughout.
We continue training at the pitch until Friday 11th May. We hope to organise a couple of friendlies during summer. We would also hope to field u16s next year along with u12s and u14s.
U10 Girls
The Fenit Samphires U10 Girls who played in a blitz with Camp and Killarney Celtic last weekend in Camp. We had 12 girls playing. There were some great displays from the Samphires girls and great fun had by all. Thanks to Camp Juniors FC for hosting blitz.
