Seniors: Killarney Athletic 0 v 2 Samphires (Scorers Ger McCarthy, Jamie Culloty)

Well done to our Senior team last Sunday who played away to Killarney Athletic in the Munster Junior Cup and recorded a notable victory.  We were on top in the first half but failesd to press home our advantage. We kept at it after the break though against a resurgent Athletic team and goals from Ger Mac and Jamie Culloty in the middle of the second half were enough to win the game for us.  Good performances from all the squad with Sean Foley, Ryan Downey and Brian O’Regan among the best of them.

U17s: Samphires 3 v 1 Ardfert (Scorers Gavin Burrows, Eddie Stack, Tadgh McKenna)

Samphires played Ardfert in a local derby last Saturday. We started well and played excellent soccer for 30 mins playing  through the wings with numerous crosses and with a little more composure we could have been a few up. However after 30 minutes Gavin Burrows scored our first goal and Fenit went 1-0. As can happen we lost concentration for the remaining 15 minutes of the half and allowed Ardfert back into the game and went in 1-1 at half time. Over half time the lads refocused and re-emerged in the second half to bring the game to Ardfert. Once again we attacked on the right and left wing and again were unlucky not to convert a number of goals. Finally after 75 minutes Fenit’s Eddie Stack converted a goal after a fine cross and went 2-1 up. For the remaining 10 minutes Ardfert committed all players forward to score an equaliser and after one of the Ardfert attacks Fenit countered with 4 players versus 2 defending  to slot a well worked goal by Tadgh McKenna after some excellent passing play starting from our keeper. The game ended 3-1 to Fenit. Well done all involved. All 14 players played well but Conor Gaynor, Darragh Heim and Liam Tobin were very influential throughout the second half.

U15s Castleisland 0 v 2 Samphires (Scorers Eddie McCarthy(2))

The 15s continued their winning ways in Castleisland winning 2 nil, both goals coming from Eddie McCarthy after some clever play from Bobby O’Connor. The team played quite well throughout and were quite solid at the back with Keith O’Mahony a commanding presence in goals and Ben Donnellan excellent in the centre. Though we were short a few players those who came in did really well and deserve a lot of credit for their performances. Well done boys.

U14s Girls Castleisland 2 v 0 Samphires

Its was an early start for the u14 girls away to Castleisland with a 9.30 kick off last Saturday, the first of 3 matches between the 2 clubs at the same venue . The two teams were very evenly matched and on a heavy pitch both defences were on top with very few chances created. Both Jess Mc Gibney and Ciara O’Sullivan put in great performances in midfield and never stopped working. Late in the 2nd half we conceded from a long ball and over the top. Castleisland scored a 2nd in the dying minutes on a counter attack just after we were denied by a fine save from the home keeper as we pushed for equaliser. A disappointing result after such hard work by every player.

U13s Castleisland 0 v 9 Samphires (Scorers Tiernan O’Sullivan, Rory Boyd, Aaron Harty(3), Tom Quilter (2), Jayden Deady(2))

The 13s had a big win against a brave Castleisland B team last weekend. We found it difficult in the first half and overplayed the ball quite a bit against a team that set up defensively and got bodies in the way. When we eventually started to switch the play we reaped the rewards though our quality of striking the ball was not what we would be happy with. As the game progressed our opponents tired and we opened up a good lead which we never relinquished. Best for us were Gregory Clifford, Rory Boyd, Tomás Godley, Jack McCarthy, Charlie Nolan, Daithi Ó Murchadha and Jack Dwyer in goals.

U11s Boys – league blitz – great performances by both teams against two strong clubs in Listowel and St Brendan’s Park. We more than held our own and both won a few and lost a few by narrow margins. Coaches have seen great improvements in all players. Special mention to the McGuire brothers who have recently joined and played their first games. Keep up the practice all!
