Fenit Samphires Girls teams tried out ‘Glow Football’ last Friday and Saturday evening. Over the two night over 40 girls enjoyed the experience of playing football in the dark with luminous gear face paint and football. Great fun was had by all…thanks to Kerry School Boys and Girls League for loan of equipment.
Seniors: Tralee Dynamos 2 v 3 Samphires (Scorers Ger McCarthy, Daniel Clinton(2))
Well done to the seniors on a good win vs Dynamos in Tralee last Sunday morning. We were 3 up at the half the scores coming from Ger McCarthy and Daniel Clinton(2). We do seem to have a problem playing for the full game and again we dropped our levels in the second half and Dynamos came into it and deservedly got a couple of goals. We upped it again when it counted for the last 10 mins to see out the victory.
U17 Boys: Ratoo Rovers 3 v 2 Samphires (Scorers Daragh Heim, Conor Gaynor)
A top of the table clash it finished Ratoo 3 Fenit 2. The home team got a softish penalty in first 5 mins but Fenit responded with a good level of intensity and levelled before half time with a Daragh Heim goal. In second half Ratoo went 2-1 up but again we levelled to 2_2 with the goal of the season contender by Conor Gaynor – a fantastic header from a corner. Ratoo stole the third goal against the run of play to go 3-2 up near the end but our guys battled hard but couldn’t force a third. Well done lads, keep up the good work.
U14 Girls Samphires 1 v 4 Listowel Celtic (Scorer Lily Nowak)
The Listowel girls were first to settle and scored early. However from then on Fenit played their best football of the season so far with Jess Mc Gibney and Lily Nowak creating some great scoring oppurtunites from the right wing which we were unfortunate not to convert. Listowel grabbed an 2nd just before half time. In the 2nd half Fenit continued to press while the defence stood strong with great performances from Aoife Greaney and Laura Reilly and some fine stops by Grace Stack. Ciara O’Sullivan battled hard all day in the centre of mid field. Fenit began to tire a little and Listowel got through for a 3rd. Lily Nowak was then brought down for a penalty. Lilly was unlucky not to convert the penalty when she struck the crossbar. While Listowel did score a very fortunate fourth again this did not dishearten the Fenit girls who pressed high up the pitch won the ball and Lily Nowak scored with a fine finish. This team has improved in all positions and their spirit is really strong and great to see.
U12A Boys: Camp 1 v 1 Samphires (Scorer Cian  McKenna)
Fenit played away to Camp on a rescheduled match this Sunday. We started out very defensively against a good Camp team really pushing us from the kick off. They were by far the most physical team we played so far this year and got an early goal as we fell asleep in the last 3rd. We looked very tired and invited Camp into us who to be fair were playing the better soccer. At the break we asked the lads to up their work rate which saw us get into the game more but Camp dealt with everything we threw at them. It always looked like we might lose this one but the last 10 minutes saw Fenit pushing more and putting width on the ball. With only minutes left we got a free on the half way line. Dominic Regan hit a fantastic ball high into the camp box and Cian executed in style to put us 1-1. It finished this way but feel maybe Camp were unlucky but we did play all the soccer with 10 minutes left and even had two chances to win it.
Our lads didn’t have the same energy they usually have and probably needed a game like this to keep us on our toes. Well done to Camp. Man of the match was Jack McCarthy with Dominic and Jack Nolan playing their best game to date. Bar the goal Jack Dwyer was never troubled and Charlie Nolan impacted when on. Kealan O’Dowd was threatening and unlucky to get injured. Jayden Deady was solid in midfield with Gregory Clifford and Cian McKenna always looking to get in the ball. Tom Quilter as always giving a high work rate up and down the wing. Aaron Harty so unlucky not to score and didn’t get the same through balls today to win this game. Next week is probably a division 1 decider against Tralee Dynamos in Samphire Park @ 10:30. We are asking all parents and family to attend as a win here could see us through for the rest of the season.
