U15 Boys: Samphires 4 v 1 Mastergeeha (Scorers Eddie McCarthy (2), Robert Monaghan (2))

A title deciding game was played out in Samphire Park last Wednesday as our 15’s played Mastergeeha in a winner takes all battle for the league title. Our boys played with so much desire, fight, passion and a quality that was a joy to watch. All 13 boys played the best game of their season. The game itself was a very physical game with extremely hard tackles being put in. We were forced into two injury substitutions before half time and even finished the game with ten players due to injury. The game was evenly poised at 1-1 at half time. Credit to our boys who increased their work rate and commitment to a level that was just too hard for the visitors to handle. Our goal scorers were Eddie McCarthy and Robert Monaghan both getting a brace each. The game finished a convincing 4-1 to claim the league title. We would also like to commend the Mastergeeha manager on congratulating our team after the game. Every player should be extremely proud of their efforts in the game and all season as we are of them. We have a small squad and every player has improved in quality every year which is fantastic to see.well done to Barry Ryan who managed the team and also to Kevin Deady and Brian O’Regan for their contributions over the season. So this fantastic group of boys were crowned Div 2 champions last season and Div 1 champions now. Bring on the premier divison next season.

U12 Boys Samphires 4 v 0 Killarney Celtic(Scorers Aaron Harty, Jayden Deady(2), Cian McKenna)

Fenit Samphires U12 boys had a huge game last Saturday against Killarney Celtic B to claim the Division 1 title for 2019 at Samphire Park Fenit. This was an absolutely nail biting game. Fenit started off very nervously but after 10 minutes they settled and both sides played some nice football. Fenit led 1-0 at the break after an even enough first half. We enjoyed a slice of luck just on the half when Celtic hit the post but it rebounded out. We enjoyed a much better 2nd half and deserved a great victory to become Division 1 2019 champions . Jack McCarthy had a super game at centre back…definitely man of the match. Tom Quilter a rock in centre with Cian, Micheal, Charlie and Conor moving fast ball on the wings and supplying the menacing Aaron and Cian. A special mention today to Gregory for his work rate and Kealan for his vision and Jayden Deady as captain. With a solid back line of Jack, Dominic, Paddy, Jayden and Jack Nolan to keep a clean sheet this was real team performance and to top the occasion Jack had the best goalkeeping record for this division. A massive well done to Kevin Deady, John Quilter and Dave Stanton for their dedication to this bunch all year.

U16 Girls: Killarney Athletic 1 v 1 Samphires (Scorer Lily Nowak)…Athletic won on Pens.

We travelled to Killarney Athletic on Wednesday evening for the U16 cup semi final replay. We went behind after 10 minutes but near the end of the first half Lily Nowak found herself in on goal and scored a lovely goal for us. It was stalemate after that and we went into extra time which was a very nervy affair with both teams being very defensive. Unfortunately the penalty shoot out did not go our way and we lost out. We went over to Killarney with 13 girls and each one gave a great performance. Their work rate was fantastic and we couldn’t ask any more of them. It was hard to pick a woman of the match but Laura Reilly played her best all season.  Best of luck to Killarney in the final.

U12 Girls: Dingle Bay Rovers 2 v 0 Samphires

The u12 girls played Dingle Bay Rovers in the first round of the cup away. This was a real close cup tie.  Nil all at half time both defences were on top. Fenit led by captain Heather McCann pushed in the 2nd half for the winner. With 10 minutes to go we took a gamble and pushed up only to get caught by two goals. Final score Dingle 2-0 Fenit. A huge team performance….. Cara Kelly played really well and deserves girl of the match.

U10s: Fenit Samphires Academy took part in an end of season blitz in Listowel on Sunday. We had an u8, u7 boys and a u10/u8 girls team playing. All played fantastic and some great displays of skills and determination. That finishes up the academy for this season. Thanks to all players they are a great bunch and we hope to see them all back in September. Also thanks to all parents for support and of course all coaches.
