Senior Men: Killarney Athletic B 1 v 1 Samphires (Scorer: JJ Prior)

Our 100% record ended, but our unbeaten run remains after a hard fought draw in Killarney.Athletic started stronger, with Ciaran Murray making a couple of good saves to keep the scores level. We got a foothold in the game halfway through the half and were unlucky not to get a goal for our efforts with Cian McKenna and Gearoid Savage coming closest. The second half was very scrappy as both teams battled hard but struggled to create anything clear cut until Killarney broke right down the middle of the pitch and finished to go 1 up. The goal may have been the wake-up call we needed as we squandered 2 good opportunities and had a disallowed goal in the final 10 minutes. Thankfully, our persistence was rewarded in stoppage time as JJ Prior got control of a loose ball on the edge of the box and finished well with his left foot. We had a couple of half chances to win the game, but overall, a draw was probably a fair result.A hard earned point and a good battle, which hopefully will stand to us in our Munster Shield game with Dynamos B Sunday in Fenit.

Division 4: Atletico Ardfert – 3 v 0 Samphires

A disappointing result for Fenit against neighbours Ardfert, especially after three previous wins on the trot. Despite playing with a very depleted team, Fenit entirely dominating possession and chances in the first 40 minutes but were lucky to go in level at halftime, after Ardfert came very close to scoring from a corner just before the break. The early period of the 2nd half then proved disastrous for Samphires as Ardfert banged in a couple of goals in quick succession, to lead 2 nil. Now chasing the game with a thread bare team, Fenit faced an uphill battle to get a reply but Samphire’s fate was sealed when they conceded an own goal five minutes from time, to make it 3-0 to the hosts.

Senior Men: Samphires 3 v 0 Lenamore (Cian McKenna, Des McCarthy, Dylan Flynn)

Our As kept their 100% league record with a deserved 3 0 win over Lenamore. The game started very evenly with both teams struggling to create clear cut chances. We grew into the game and started to take control when Cian McKennas overhead kick turned in Dylan Flynns deflected cross. We remained in control and got our second before half time when Billy Walsh turned his man inside out before setting up Des McCarthy who finished neatly into the corner.Just minutes into the second half the game was wrapped up when Dylan’s threatening cross was misjudged by the goalkeeper due to the relentless pressure of Des. Lenamore would go on the put a penalty wide as the game fizzled out. 3 points and another clean sheet as our strong start to the season continues.

Tralee Dynamos C 3 v 4 Fenit Samphires B (Scorers:Luke Murphy, Oran Murphy, Conor Lenihan, Eddie McCarthy)

Fenit eked out a well deserved away victory, their third on the bounce, in testing underfoot conditions at Cahermoneen on Sunday last. Dynamos provided a very stern examination for Samphires and the home side went ahead somewhat against to run of play after 25 minutes, when a cross-come-shot nestled in the top corner. By this time Fenit had lost David O’Brien through an early injury, to be replaced by Shane Kelly. After a clear penalty claim was turned down a half an hour in, Luke Murphy stepped up to slot home the equaliser from the spot just three minutes later before Oran Murphy put Fenit 2-1 ahead moments afterwards following a defence splitting pass from Eddie Mc Carthy. Dynamos hit the post and Sean Dowling bravely cleared to keep the visitors one ahead at the break. Fenit made it 3-1 after 56 minutes when Conor Lenihan slotted it home from a very tight angle after a period of dominance. Dynamo’s replied almost immediately to make it 3-2 before Brian O’Conor cleared off the line from a Dynamos corner in a frenetic last half hour. Eddie Mc Carthy made it 4- 2 with a diving header from a fine assist by Dara Heim after 78 minutes. Dynamos continued to press and pulled one back with 8 minutes left. By now it was all hands to the pump for Fenit, who defended like men possessed with keeper David Chute producing a great save, diving low to his left. Dynamos had a succession of corners in the dying minutes but could not find the equaliser in the end, much to the relief of assistant Manager Jack Kells.

This takes place this coming Saturday at 2pm verus Drogheda United in the KDL grounds Mounthawk. This is a great achievement by this talented bunch. The squad features many players who have come through from a wide mix of clubs in KSBGL, showing the great talent in the girls game in the County. A special mention to our own Grace Reilly who played with Samphires from u10 to u16s.It would be great to see support come out on Saturday for this history making squad!

Boys U15s: LB Rovers 1 v 2 Samphires (Scorer: Conor Finn (2))

Well done to the 15s who eked out a win against a spirited LB team. LB were on top in the initial stages and took the lead after 20 minutes. We came back into it and after 10 minutes of pressure, Conor Finn was put through by Zach Kearney and Adam Duffy for the equaliser, so 1 all at HT. We were more on top in 2nd half with LB still dangerous on the break, but again Conor Finn was on the mark put through beautifully by Gary Parker to score midways through 2nd half which was the only goal of the half.

Boys U14s: Mastergeeha 6 v 5 Samphires

U14s vs Listowel Nov 2024

U14 Girls: Fenit 7 v 3 Listowel Celtic (Scorers: Erin Harty (4), Fiadh Nelan (2), Aoibhinn Corridon)

A solid performance from the Fenit girls with much energy and enthusiasm on display through out. Listowel showed great resilience under pressure, particularly early in the second half as we looked to build a lead. However, our ability to maintain good periods of possession finally told and they were rewarded with some goals to pull away. Thanks to Listowel for an enjoyable game played in great sporting spirit.

U14 Boys: Samphires 1 v 1 Ballyhar (Scorer Evan Diggin)

U13 Girls: Kerry under 13’s girls played Limerick Desmond League last Sunday and came away with a 3-0 win. The Limerick side were well organised and played some great football. A goal from our own Fenit Samphires Hannah Barrett Neziri was the 1st of the game and brought Kerry to a 3-0 win.

U13s v Ballyhar Nov 2024

U13 Girls Ballyhar 1 v 4 Samphires: (Scorers:Grace Fitzgibbon, Hannah Barrett-Neziri(3))

A good win for our girls away to Ballyhar on Saturday. We went behind to an early goal, but we’re soon back level thanks to a Grace Fitzgibbon goal. We played much better into the breeze in the second half, with Ella Sayers solid in defence and Aoife Carey very lively in midfield. Hannah Barrett-Neziri scored a second half hattrick to see us to a well deserved win.

Mastergeeha hosted Kerry SBGL U13 Kerry v Cork game on Sunday. Our own Hannah Barrett – Neziri scoring the first goal under what was by all accounts a highly physical and pressured game. She once again flew the Samphires flag with great pride. A draw of 2 – 2 was the final result.

U13 Boys Killarney Celtic 6 v 0 Samphires

We had a tough day last week with a big defeat away to Killarney Celtic in the Premier Division. A number of our lads struggled to get to the pitch of the game, but it is part of the learning curve and we hope that all our lads will have gained something from the match and will improve for the next game.

U13s Oct 2024

U13 Boys Fenit B 2 v 4 Listowel Celtic C (Scorers: Padraig Whelan, Luke McCann)

Quite a poor result by our lads in a game we would have expected to win. There wasn’t much to note in this game except that our fellas were well under par and we can only say well done to Listowel who deserved their win.

U12 Girls: Fenit 1 v Castleisland 7

Our 12s girls are starting to come to terms to 11 a side football and it will take time for the team to come together. Our girls are quite skilful and training is going well so we would expect to improve gradually as the season progresses. Keep it up girls.

Boys U12s v Camp Nov 2024

U12 Boys Camp B 0 v 7 Samphires B

Our Division 1 team got back to winning ways on Sunday evening, with a convincing win away to Camp B.The boys settled into the game right from the whistle and were 1-0 up with only a minute on the clock courtesy of a fine finish from Tomás Bunyan. A brace from Luke McCann followed after sustained pressure and Fenit were 3-0 up with six minutes played. Padraig Whelan seemed to be testing the Camp keeper on almost every attack, and had a few chances from distance that narrowly went the wrong side of the post and one that rattled the crossbar. At the other end of the pitch Camp could not penetrate the defensive line of Josh Duffy, Eoin Corridon and Eddie Gaynor, who maintained their shape and cut off every attack. Any ball that cleared the defense was quickly snapped up as Luke Falvey raced off his line to collect. Two more goals from Tomás Bunyan brought the score to 5-0 by the 17th minute and effectively ended the contest. On the 22nd minute Padraig Whelan pounced on a through ball and drove his shot past the Camp keeper for a well deserved goal. 6-0 at half time.

The 2nd half started like the first and with only 5 minutes on the clock Luke McCann had secured his hatrick bringing the score to 7-0. The boys were instructed to close out the game and keep a clean sheet, and with a sweeping performance from Garret Lovett, playmaking from Eoin Gilligan and Cian O’Sullivan and attacking wing-back Leighton Murphy they managed to keep Camp goal-less. Jack Buckley put more pressure on a tired Camp defense and was unlucky not to score. Another great performance from this group of players. Well done boys!!

U12 Boys Samphires C 1 v 7 LB Rovers B

U12 Boys Killarney Celtic B 1 v 0 Fenit Samphires B

Our Division 1 team suffered their first defeat of the season on Wedneaday evening, losing 1-0 away to Killarney Celtic. The game got off to a ferocious start with some good play from both sides, with the home side having the best of the early exchanges. With less than 10 minutes on the clock Killarney pounced on a loose ball and stuck a low shot to bottom the corner of the Fenit net, which proved to be the only goal of the game. Fenit kept their heads and grew in confidence in the second quarter with some solid defensive play by Garrett Lovett and good moves down the left and right wings by Tomás Bunyan and Luke McCann. The second half was all Fenit Samphires as they piled the pressure on the Killarney Celtic defence with great running from Cian O’Sullivan, and Josh Duffy in midfield. Jack Buckley and Padraig Whelan were very lively up front and had one or two half-chances each. Early in the final quarter Jack Buckley took a shot that seemed destined for the net but some brave goalkeeping by the Killarney net minder denied him the equaliser. Killarney always looked dangerous on the break, however our defence kept a clean sheet until the final whistle. There was a sigh of relief from the home sideline when the final whistle blew as they acknowledged that they had got out of jail. Despite the result, overall it was another great performance from this young team who will have a big part to play in the business end of the season.

U12 Boys: Ardfert 3 v 1 Fenit C (Scorer Matthew Rael)

An excellent game which was in the balance till the final attack. Top class teamwork on show with both teams plaing with a structure and playing it out from the back. We went in 1 up at the break with a goal from a counter attack by Matthew. It had been even in the first half and the second half was no different. Ardfert scored their own counter attack goal early after a last gasp clearance from their defence and we were caught up the field. With 5 minutes to go we failed to clear a corner and we conceded at the back post. We pushed on for the equaliser but were unable to get it and Ardfert scored again with the last kick of the game. Well done to both teams on an excellent spectacle.
