Men Seniors: Atletico Ardfert 2 v 0 Samphires B

Our senior B team went down 2 nil to Ardfert in the Tommy Healy Cup last Sunday. It was a very windy wintry day which made playing fooball difficult. We didn’t start well and went 1 down after a minute. We chased this for the rest of the game but couldn’t get the goal we needed. Ardfert scored again later in the game to give them a cushion which they held till the end.

Women Seniors Social Soccer: Our Women’s Social Soccer group played in the first tournament of 2026 last Saturday night. It was a good run out for us and we had enough players for 2 teams. We acquitted ourselves well, we lost the first 2 games 2-0 and 3-1 and won the third 2-0. We chopped and changed our team during the 3 games, with completely different selections in all the 6 halves and everyone got loads of game time to get back up to speed after Christmas. Training again in Ardfert All Weather next Thursday at 8.

Boys U16s: Mastergeeha B 2 v 6 Samphires A (Scorers: Jack Corridon, Conor Finn(3), Conor Sullivan, Cormac Lawlor)

Another good win and a good start to the 2nd half of the season for the 16s. A fantastic strike from Jack Corridon put us 1 up early on but we were caught on the break for a well finished goal by Mastergeeha. Goals on either side of halftime by Conor Finn , one more by Conor Sullivan before Conor Finn headed home his hat-trick and a final goal by Cormac Lawlor left us 6-1 up before a late consolation goal by Mastergeeha. Good stuff boys.

U15s vs Iveragh Jan 2026

Girls U15s: Samphires 4 v 2 Iveragh (Scorers: Hannah Barrett Neziri, Fiadh Nelan)

Playing their first game since November, there little sign of rustiness as the girls overcame a strong and competitive Iveragh to begin 2025 with a win. And they had to do it the hard way. Despite playing really well and dominating possession for much of the first half, they trailed 1-0 at half time after an opportunistic and well taken goal from Iveragh. But their play and pressure was rewarded in the 2nd half as they converted some great moves to ultimately swing the tie in their favour. Hannah Barrett Neziri equalised after some great build up play by Roisin and Erin. Fiadh put us in the lead with a good finish before Hannah added her second after more good lead up play by Clodagh. Iveragh scored again to ensure a nervy end to the match, but Hannah completed her hat-trick to finally see Fenit home. It was a complete team performance from all the girls, from Julie in goals, to a rock solid defense, midfielders who bossed the middle and our 3 forwards who were a constant threat. Well done all. And thanks to Iveragh for a great sporting match.

Boys U14s: Samphires 2 v 5 Killarney Celtic (Scorers: Sean Collins, Bruno Gryzbowski)

Quite a good display against a good team, the game was in the melting pot right to the end. With a few changes positionally in the team, we looked a bit more solid defensively. Our defenders worked well as a group but 1v1 defending cost us at times. Celtic dominated the first half and scored twice towards half-time. In midfield, we worked hard to get to the pace of the game but as the game progressed we got more possession of the ball and with the game at 3-2 with 10 minutes to go we had quite a few attacks which nearly yielded an equaliser. We conceded a 4th at this point from a free, harshly in our view, but continued to press our opponents in their half. They scored with a fine shot with the last kick of the game to make it 5-2 but this was a step forward for our team we hope.

Boys U14s: Killarney Athletic C 3 v 2 Samphires B (Scorers: Sheana Ferris, Josh Duffy)

Positive performance from the lads today. While we were two down at half time we had created a lot of chances and were unlucky. A great free kick in by Sheana and a well taken goal by Josh brought us level with 5 mins to go. We let our concentration drop in the last minute and Athletic scored from a corner which was a disappointing way to end but loads of good things to take from this game. Well done to all the players!

U13s vs Tralee Dynamos Jan 26

Girls U13s: Tralee Dynamos 0 v 1 Samphires (Scorer: Fiadh McElligott)

Our u13 girls travelled to Tralee Dynamos on Saturday in the first of our top 4 games. We spoke about playing on the front foot before the game and they showed it in abundance throughout the game. It was 0-0 at half time with our girls having the best of chances and applying most of the pressure. Our goal came with 7 minutes to play in the second half by the ever reliable, Fiadh McElligott. It was a massive team effort and we now look forward to playing Camp FC in a few weeks time.

Boys U12s: Samphires 1 v 4 Listowel Celtic (Scorer Eoghan Gilligan)

Our league campaign resumed with a home fixture against Listowel in Fenit this morning. Our first half was superb and we were unlucky to go in half time level with our goal coming from Eoghan Gilligan. Second half was a more even affair and a tough five minutes saw us concede a few goals to put the game out of reach. Our boys attitude and performance was top notch until the very end and better results lay ahead.

Girls U12s: We played Castleisland last Sunday morning in Fenit in pretty poor conditions. It was an even enough affair with both teams giving plenty of minutes to all the players, all of whom showed some great touches. Well done to both sets of players and also to their managers for organising to play on a ‘week off’.
