Men Senior: Samphires 3 vs 5 Castlegregory Celtic
A collapse in the 2nd half last Sunday after being 3 -1 up at half time. We started well and went ahead after some good play. Our play in the first half was very good with the ball and we deserved the half time scoreline. Though we continued to play well in possession our defending at times was poor and in particular, our transition to defence was poor. Quite often we had defenders caught & punished in 1 v 1 situations and though individuals might have done better, our collective sense of defending wasn’t there and we were deservedly punished.
Women Social Soccer: Our women’s team played in the latest blitz last Saturday night in Tralee. We lost 2 – 1 to Dingle Bay Rovers in our first game. We conceded 2 goals early enough with Dingle finding the net with 2 well taken shots from distance. We had a good lot of possession during the game and it eventually told with 3 minutes to go with a goal. Try as we did we couldn’t get another one with Dingle defending in numbers. We lost 4 nil in the second game to a young MEK team. Despite the score, we played very well but MEK were very good on the counter and made it count. In the last game we played Ballyhar Dynamos and came out 2 nil winners. Again we did well with the ball but defended better and didn’t commit too many players to attack especially in the first half. We went 1 up in the middle of the game and scored a late one on the counter when Ballyhar were pressing us for an equaliser to give us the victory. Well done to all and to the KDL and the referees for hosting the event.
U15 Boys Samphires A 0 v 5 Castleisland A
Our 15s season hit a bump on the road last week with a 5 nil drubbing against Premier side Castleisland. We are well in with a shout for Div 1 but if we go up, we have a lot of improving to do especially in the physical stakes. We weren’t strong enough at all in this match and the players will have to take it more seriously going forward.
U15 Boys Listowel Celtic B 1 v 1 Samphires B
U13 Boys – Samphires A 1 v 5 Park A
Though it looks like we lost badly in this game, we actually played quite well but the Park were well able to finish their chances. Like most of our teams, we will have to look more carefully at the defensive side of things and try to stop gifting our opponents goals.
U13 Boys MEK B v Samphires B
U11 Girls Samphires v LB Rovers: Hard luck to our girls who just about lost out to LB last Sunday. It was close throughout but we just came up short. Well done girls.
