Seniors: Samphires 0 v 2 Listowel Celtic

Our senior team played their first game in 5 weeks last Sunday and it showed. 2 goals in the first half for Listowel was enough to get them the victory. We improved in the second half and we had a penalty to make a game of it but didn’t convert so it finished 2-0 to Listowel.

U16 Boys:Samphires 4 v 4 Windmill Utd(Scorers Danny Jeffers, Paddy Walsh, Eddie McCarthy(2))

Fenit Samphires U16 played Windmill United on Saturday. Fenit took 5 – 10 minutes to get up to speed with the game but Windmill took full advantage and were  3-0 up after seven minutes. Fenit also lost keeper Paddy O’Sullivan after a collision with Windmills centre forward. Fortunately Ciaran ‘O Shea took up the role thereafter and did very well. Fenit dug deep and started to play the wings. They also started to win midfield and dominate. All the possession led to two goals before half time – first from Danny Jeffers followed by a nice strike from Paddy Walsh, both goals resulting from attacks from out wide. After half time Fenit continued to dominate and the centre backs covered well to ensure the Windmill forwards were denied any chances. Fenit scored twice in quick succession with two goals from Eddie McCarthy to go 4-3 up but again a small lapse in defensive concentration allowed Windmill to equalise the game 4-4. Fenit had chances thereafter but were unable to capitalise. Game ended 4-4 probably a fair result after the poor start. Our team play was hot/cold but when we got the ball wide we were quite effective. Adam Doyle on the left wing had a great game playing very well to attack the end line and deliver very good crosses. A special mention to Daragh Yates who was introduced in the second half and played in the left back position for the first time, playing very well.

U12 Boys:Samphires 4 v 2 Mastergeeha (Scorers Jayden Deady, Gregory Clifford, Aaron Harty(2))

Captain for the day Jack McCarthy of the U12A’s

Our toughest opposition to date and as the match progressed it lived up to this billing. While we had good possession Mastergeeha looked very dangerous on the counter. Initially we didn’t utilize the wings to great effect and in this very tight game it suited Mastergeeha. However we did create a number of changes in front of goals and eventually they got a lovely goal from Jayden Deady. The 2nd half started off with Mastergeeha attacking at every opportunity and soon after the restart leveled the match with a lovely ball through the middle. Fenit responded well and took the lead with Aaron Harty attacking and scoring to put us back in the lead. Mastergeeha didn’t give up and within 5 minutes put a ball over the top to equalize. Our lads to their credit upped it again and 2 more quick goals which saw us win 4-2 on the day. The two Nolan’s were outstanding with Dominic Regan, Kealan O’Dowd, Jack McCarthy, Cian McKenna solid in the 2nd half. Jack Dwyer had his best game to date in goals, Jayden controlled midfield supplying Tom Quilter and Gregory Clifford on the wings and Aaron up top was his usual menacing self.
