U12 Boys: Samphires 1 v 2 Killarney Athletic(Scorer Cian McKenna)

With division 1 winners confirmed for Fenit our team played at home Friday in the semifinals of the shield against Killarney Athletic. We started poorly and looked tired as Killarney played all the soccer. We took about 15 minutes to get into this game and that was after a Killarney goal to wake us up. We played well in the last 15 minutes of the first half which gave the boys some positive motivation for the 2nd half.  We made a few changes to freshen up our attack and within the first 10 minutes of restarting we looked the better team but Killarney always threatening on the counter attack. We were forced to put in another forward and within 2 minutes equalized through Cian McKenna. Now the feel of the game was changed and after Killarney dominating for so long it was Feint with the momentum. Then with 5 minutes to go Aaron was so unfortunate to see the other side of the posts with a shot millimeters away for what would have been the winning goal. We seemed to dwell on this missed chance and straight away Killarney scored to give them the win instead. On review probably can’t argue with this result as we were late getting into this one and Killarney brought more energy. We wish Killarney success in the final. Our backs had a fine game…Jack in goals, Paddy, Jayden and Jack in front of him. Aaron and Cian unlucky not to steal this one for us. Michael, Tom, Gregory, Kealan and Conor playing well down the sides with Charlie and Dominic making their impact in defence. Paddy Hannifin MOTM for this one.

So our 2018/2019 soccer year has come to an end for our U12 division 1 boys group. For the mentors this group has given us a lot of joy and are undoubtedly the best group of lads we have ever managed. So well behaved, respectful, always smiling and the willingness to learn are the highlights…. yes it is your kids we are talking about ?A credit to their parents and to each other. When we started back in August we thought if we could compete we would be happy and if anyone told us they would win division 1 and get to the semifinals in the shield we would have sent you to Killarney !!!! On behalf of the club Kevin, Dave and I are going to organize a day out to celebrate our achievements….. splatball. We will forward details once we organize it and have a medal ceremony date also. Don’t start crying…. our u12s are growing and will now be u13’s next year so if they decide to stay with it, put up with more scary music bus trips we are confident of more success in the premier next year ??? Samphires abú…. Kevin, Dave and John
