Men Seniors: Fenit Samphires A 7 v 0 Windmill United (Scorers: Richard Burke, Jesse Stafford-Lacey(2), Ger McCarthy, Ryan Dolan(2), Sean Allen)
Back to winning ways after leaving one behind us last week. Richard Burke scored early from a Jesse Stafford-Lacey through ball to set the tone for the afternoon. Ger Mac curled in a sumptuous free kick off the inside of the post before Jesse strolled around the keeper from Ger’s incisive through ball to put us 3 up at half time. After a sloppy start to the second half we regained control and Ger lashed home after being teed up by Jesse. Richard returned the favour and set Jesse on his way to fire home for his second and our 5th. Ryan Dolan found Sean Allen 25 yards out and he found the bottom corner with precision, and finally Ryan would capitalise on a poor kick out and lob the keeper from distance as our push for promotion got back on track.
Tralee Bay Wanderers 0 v 4 Samphires B (Scorers: Michael Mixer O’Brien, Gearoid Savage, Luke Murphy, Connor Lenihan)
Samphires B got back to winning ways and completed a great day for the clubs’s senior sides at the KDL, with a comfortable four nil away win. This game opened at a very pedestrian pace before Michael Mixer O’Brien danced through the opposition midfield and fired low to the right corner to give Fenit the lead after just 3 minutes. Wanderers nearly equalised within moments, when a very well struck long range effort was expertly tipped onto the crossbar, by the outstretched hand of goalkeeper David Chute, to keep us ahead. Samphires, and their defence in particular, remained well in control of matters for the remainder of the half, but some excellent passing interplay and movement was mixed with plenty of sloppy play. Fenit came close to extending their lead through Gearoid Gazza Savage who had two well struck efforts in quick succession, just before halftime.
Into the 2nd half, we considerably upped our game and immediately had Tralee Bay on the back foot. We came close to extending the lead with a couple of long range efforts before we did just that with a cool finish from six yards after an inch perfect endline cross from Mixer after 55 minutes. For the next 20 minutes the game entered a lull as Fenit kept Wanderers well at arm’s length. Substitute Jack McCarthy had a legitimate penalty claim turned down when upended in the box by the home keeper, before, a by now fired up Luke Murphy, put the game to bed after 75 minutes heading home Oran Murphy’s corner kick from close range . Conor Lenihan completed the rout in the 88th minute tucking home the rebound after a powerful Peter Mc Carthy effort cannoned off the crossbar.
Boys U15s: Samphires 7 v 0 LB Rovers (Scorers: Conor Finn(3), Adam Duffy(2), Cormac Lawlor, Gary Parker)
Well done to the 15s after a dominant display vs LB last weekend. We played well throughout and were clinical in front of goal. LB to their credit didn’t give up, but on the day we we were able to stop their front 3 who were dangerous, and our offence did well. We scored 2 early goals, then LB came at us but we weathered the storm and got a third near half time…a 4th soon after the break finished the game as a contest. Well done again to all the squad.
Boys U13s: Samphires 1 v Killarney Athletic (Scorer: Aron Keating)
A tough day for the 13s where we saw how a top team can finish you off. The game was even enough till half time but Athletic’s ability at thetop end of the pitch was the difference. Our concentration defensively wasn’t great at times with gaps being exploited by but some good early passing. Conceding a 3rd at the stroke of half time was the killer for us and we lost shape after the break too often and were duly punished. Still, a decent first half… our boys need to bring this level for the full game and we’ll get more competitive.
