Boys U15s: v Inter Kenmare 3 v 7 Samphires (Scorers: Cormac Lawlor(3), Cian Slattery(3), Evan Neary)
Pride of place goes to our Boys 15s who went to Kenmare during the week, down a few players, looking for the victory that would leave us on top of Div 1 and too far ahead to be caught. The lads brought their A game and we had a good win against a good team. Our team has improved this season under the watchful eyes of Mike and Ciaran and congratulations to both them and especilly the boys from the club on a great season.
Boys U16s Ballyhar 6 v 3 Samphires
Hard luck to our 16s who lost out to a strong Ballyhar team last week. In fairness our oppenents were a small bit ahead of us for a lot of the match and deserved the win.
Girls U15s: Iveragh 5 v 5 Samphires (Scorer Hannah Barrett Neziri(5))
A sunny but windy day down in South Kerry saw our girls play out an entertaining draw at the weekend. Hannah Barrett Neziri was in great shooting form again, scoring all 5 goals with nice assists from Erin, Fiadh and Aoibhinn. Having led for most of the game, the girls will be disappointed to have let Iveragh back into it with some late goals, but it was another solid performance from the team.
Boys U15s: Samphires A 0 v 5 Castleisland
The difference between the Premier and Division1 was there to be seen in this Cup semi-final. The big difference, we felt, was that Castleisland were very efficient in front of goals and very quick into the tackle, at a pace we don’t often see in Div 1. We were 2 down early on while we tried to adjust to the level but conceded a third just before half time. We played well with the ball throughout to our credit but were shut out in the final third by some aggressive defending. We hope that our fellas, who did very well to get this far in the competition, will have seen that we have bit to go yet.
Boys U15s: Samphires B 1 v 1 LB Rovers A
A decent game by 2 evenly matched teams saw the game ending in a draw which was probably a fair result. Our team changes from game to game, with some players available for 1 game and not the next. This makes it difficult to organise matches at times. On the other hand it gives some of the 14s extra matches at a higher level than they’re used to. In the end, we can take the view that it is a good sign that the club is fielding 2 teams at quite a lot of ages.
Girls U14s: Camp 3 v 6 Samphires & Samphires 5 v 2 Inter Kenmare
2 great victories by the girls in the past couple of weeks in the U14 shield as we go deep in this competition. Fantastic to see both hunger to win and the skill for this to happen on show in both games. Well done girls and keep it up.
Boys U14s: Samphires B 4 v 2 Milltown
A nice win to round off the season where both teams took advantage of being able to play their panels. Milltown started the better and we had to ship some pressure which told after 20 minutes and we were 1 down. We rallied and got 2 goals, the second being a bit lucky but we were happy to get it. We scored again early in the second half to put us in the driving seat and were the dominant team for much of this half. With the game petering out towards the end both teams came alive again in the final few minutes with both scoring to leave it 4-2 in the finish. Well done to the boys and Diarmuid too of course, who managed them since last August. It was great to see the team finish out the season strongly and will surely benenfit from this in the coming year.
Boys U13s: Samphires B 2 v 1 Ardfert (Scorers: Joe Dennehy, Connor O’Reilly)
It was another big performance from the Samphires boys today, resulting in a hard-fought but well-earned victory.
Fenit started positively, putting Ardfert under serious pressure from the outset. Early on, some quick passing found Luke McCann in space on the right wing. He played a great ball to the far side of the six-yard box for the onrushing Joe Dennehy, who finished emphatically.
McCann continued to cause trouble for the Ardfert defense with dangerous crosses. One of these found Connor O’Reilly, who controlled the ball well to find space before calmly passing it into the bottom corner. Ardfert managed to pull one goal back from a corner just before the break.
The second half was a more attritional affair. The team had to dig deep against a physical Ardfert side, but our defence remained impervious. Huge credit goes to the back line for the work rate and concentration.
Man of the match goes to Eanna O’Faolain, who put in an incredible shift. He consistently cut out danger, denied the Ardfert attackers any space, and frustrated them at every turn.
Well done to everyone
Boys U13s: Park C 4 v Fenit B 3
Our boys had tough luck against the Park when we lost out narrowly in the end. It was to and fro throughout and maybe could have gone either way but with a much changed team from the previous game, our defensive play got a bit ragged at times and the Park duly took advantage. Offensively we will have been happy and maybe we could have had another one or two but not to be. Well done again lads.
