Boys U17s: Newmarket Celtic(Clare) v Samphires
Girls U16s Killarney Athletic v Samphires
Boys U16s: Samphires 4 v 5 Killarney Celtic (Scorers: Conor Stack(2), Cian Slattery(pen), Adam Goggin)
In a match which swung to and fro, we got pipped at the end somehow and lost by the odd goal in 9. We started well and went 2 up, then went into our shell and before we knew it, it was 3-2 to Celtic at the half. They scored again soon after the break but we rallied to make it 4-3, then we had a repeat of that scoring sequence and it was 5-4. Both teams went at it and the score could have changed many times. On the stroke of fulltime we had 2 chances to equalise, a 1v1 with the keeper, but he made himself big and somehow pushed the shot out for a corner. In the last attack of the game we hit the bar, got to the rebound and from 6 inches managed to put the ball off the outside of the post and wide. An exciting game with both teams giving their all. Well done to all our boys on the night for a great effort.
Boys U15s: Killarney Athletic C 7 v 1 Samphires B (Scorer: Zach Mullins)
A poor day out for our 15Bs. The group hasn’t had a good start to the season and are playing short of confidence… but as long as we stay training we will turn the corner soon. Chin up lads, we’ll go again in 2 weeks time.
Boys U13s: Ballymackey FC C 0 v 7 Samphires (Scorers: Eoghan Gilligan, Olek Oglaska, Tommy O’Brien, Leighton Murphy, Ben Teahon, Matthew Rael, Abja Torres)
Fenit Samphires made the trip to Nenagh for this U13 National Cup tie and produced a strong all-round performance to progress to the next round with a good victory over Ballymackey FC.
While the scoreline was clear, the team approached the game in the right manner from start to finish, playing some excellent football, moving the ball well and showing good teamwork throughout. Ballymackey battled hard and never stopped trying, displaying great spirit despite coming up against a very strong Samphires side on the day.
As pleasing as the goals were, the overall team performance was the standout feature, with every player contributing both in and out of possession and working hard for one another throughout.
Samphires would also like to thank Ballymackey FC for their excellent hospitality and welcome on the day and wish them the very best for the remainder of the season.
Boys U13s: Samphires B 7 v C Listowel Celtic B (Scorers: Bobby Morgan(3), Eanna Griffin(2), Alan Fitzgerald, Rory Lennon)
Samphires U13Bs produced a fantastic performance to secure an impressive 7–3 victory over Listowel Celtic B, showing tremendous character and determination to come back from 2–0 down to claim a memorable win. Despite falling two goals behind early on, we never gave up and battled their way back into the game with great teamwork, attacking quality and resilience. The comeback was a real testament to the spirit and determination within the squad.
Leading the charge was Bobby Morgan, who grabbed a superb hat-trick with an excellent display in midfield and attack. Eanna Griffin also had a fantastic game, scoring twice, while Alan Fitzgerald and Rory Lennon both found the net to complete Fenit’s seven-goal haul.
At the back, Charlie O’Sullivan, Darragh O’Connor, Lucas Neale and Jonjo O’Reilly Kee were strong and organised, working hard to keep Listowel Celtic at bay as we fought our way back into the match. Diarmuid Lawlor was outstanding in goals, producing a brilliant goalkeeping performance with some excellent saves when his team needed him most. His composure and determination helped give us the platform to turn the game around.
In midfield, Bobby Morgan, Paraic Cronin, Ben Crowley and Eli Lawlor were excellent, showing great energy, battling for possession and linking the defence with the attack. Their hard work and determination played a huge part in our comeback. Up front, Eanna Griffin, Alan Fitzgerald and Rory Lennon caused constant problems for the Listowel Celtic defence, with their movement, attacking intent and clinical finishing helping us turn a difficult start into a convincing victory.
Girls U12s: Samphires 3 v 1 Killorglin (Scorers: Soóna McElligott, Molly Nelan(2))
A great result for our 12s girls last Saturday morning. We played very well against a tough team but we had slightly more possession throughout and got scores at important times to give us momentum throughout the game. Well done girls.
