Samphires 15s vs Kingdom Boys

Samphires 0 vs 3 Kingdom Boys  Sat Sept 17th

On Saturday we started our league campaign with a fixture against Kingdom Boys in a blustery Fenit. The strong wind made it difficult for the players but nevertheless both teams kept the ball on the ground and the game was of a good quality. Unfortunately, a bit like last season avoidable errors at both ends cost us but we must admit the better team on the day won. In the first half  we played with the help of the elements and we had a good bit of the ball and did create a number of half chances. At the other end Eoghan in goals had a few long range efforts to deal with but was comfortable for the most part. In defence David and Jamie had their usual good games and Dara and John in the centre dealt made life difficult for the opponents. A young midfield of Padraig,Thomas,Antóin and Sean gave as good as they got and even though we were physically out-muscled at times they played very well. Up front Cian and Ryan gave their opponents problems both with their pace and movement. As the first half seemed to be drawing to a close and it looked it would be scoreless, a 25 yard shot somehow managed to find it’s way into the corner of our net. So the second half was going to be an uphill battle against the stiffening wind and a skilful team. We were under pressure for a good bit of the second half and we conceded 2 more but our lads kept battling and that is very much to their credit. We also introduced Mark and 2 under 13s Sean Donnellan and Christopher Murphy and all contributed to the team effort. So even though we lost did a lot good stuff and hopefully we can improve from here.
