Ballyhar Dynamos- 0

Our season kicked off last Sunday morning as we welcomed Ballyhar to Samphire Park. Having gone close to being promoted last season we knew that a good start would set us up for our promotion push, and you could see the intensity in our play right from kick off. In the middle of the park Peter McCarthy and Jack Savage were bright in possession as we kept the ball well while looking to create opportunities. Up front Ger McCarthy and Daniel Clinton were threatening the Ballyhar back four with their movement and link up play while Bill Mullins and Sean ‘Chick’ Foley looked to join the attack at every opportunity. The opening goal came half way through the first period when Chick found Bill with a superb through ball and he squared for Dano to finish. Our second goal came after a swift counter attack when Jack put Bill through and he beat the defender to finish past the keeper. Dano got his second goal soon after when he finished low to beat the keeper. Darren Lynch grabbed our fourth when he finished after a corner wasn’t cleared by the Ballyhar defence and Ger scored number five when he finished from close range. 5-0  at half time and it looked like the game was decided.

In truth a lot of our good play started with us winning the ball back in midfield and our back four of Darren, Ruairi Kelly, John Moran and Kieran O Mahony were rarely troubled. Kieran and John were free to join the attack at will which allowed us to keep the ball well in attacking areas. Ray Walsh, David O’ Sullivan and Cormac O’ Connor were introduced early in the second half and made a quick impression as David was involved in the build up to Ray’s first goal. Kieran got his name on the scoresheet as well when he finished from close range after Chick squared the ball for him and Ray got his second shortly after to round off the scoring.

It was an emphatic performance and certainly bodes well for the rest of the season. Thanks to Ballyhar for a sporting game.
