Seniors Get Back To Winning Ways

Denny Premier B

Fenit Samphires-1

Daniel Clinton

Inter Kenmare-0

Fenit’s seniors bounced back from our first league defeat of the season with a good win at home to Inter Kenmare. The game followed a familiar pattern as we dominated possession throughout and created plenty of chances although worryingly we could only convert once. Dano and Ger were as dangerous as ever during the first half, creating a number of chances but we just couldn’t find a finish. Wingers Bill Mullins and Ray Walsh were pushing forward at will and caused problems for the visitors, while Peter McCarthy and Sean Foley kept control of the midfield area throughout the half. Kenmare did create a couple of half chances but stand-in goalkeeper John Maher was solid between the sticks. The half came to an end with no goals scored.

We started the second period well and kept the pressure on the visitors early on. Our back four looked strong throughout with John Moran, Darren Lynch, Ruairi Kelly and Klaudio Dema starting a lot of our good passages of play. Our frustration at not being able to finish our chances seemed to be affecting our play a little bit as we weren’t as fluid during the second half. We didn’t create as many chances but Dano scored a brilliant goal midway through the half when he headed home from Peter’s free kick. To their credit Kenmare responded well after this and pushed on for an equaliser, but we remained solid defensively. Sean Allen came off the bench to give us a boost of energy and worked hard defensively. There were a few nervy moments late on when Kenmare were awarded an indirect free kick in the box, but we made sure they didn’t get any shot on goal.

Thanks to Kenmare for a sporting game and thanks to referee Willie Gorman for officiating.
