16s Win Away To Park

SAM_2546We played Park in Tralee last week in our last league match of the season and came out with the narrowest of victories. The teams were evenly balanced and as the game unfolded in the first it was apparent that one goal might be enough to win the match for either team. The Park had the benefit of the elements in the first half and had more of the ball than us but mostly around the middle of the field. Our midfield 5 of Jack Lynch, Padraig Donnellan, Sean Donnellan, Alan McElligott and Cormac O Brien did a trojan job of keeping our opponents away from our box and as the game wore on established a foothold and we started to create a few chances ourselves. At the back our 5 of Brian O’Regan, David Lenihan, Ossie Clifford, Ciaran Murray and Ed Moynihan were very solid and Brian hadn’t any shot of note to save until near the end of the game. Christopher Murphy up front ploughed a lonely furrow at times but despite carrying an injury was always a threat. Both teams try to play a passing game and with the teams evenly matched it was quite a good game to watch. It was nil all at halfway but in the second half we had the breeze with us and we pushed Cormac and Ciaran Carmody forward and for a while forced the Park back a bit. This paid dividends and Chris scored after some smashing play involving Sean, Cormac and Carmo. We had a period of dominance for 15 minutes then, we did create a couple of chances but did not capitalise. For the last 20 Park came back at us but our back 5 which now included Padraig O’Mahony was solid and limited the chances given up. We were still dangerous on the counter but good defending kept us out. Well done to all the players from both teams who put on a great show on the night. For our lads we’re sill in the Shield so still something to play for. The team has improved as the year has gone on and we were very competitive in the league. Well done to all the lads for their efforts throughout the season and to their parents for their generous support.
