17s Win At Home Against Listowel

SAM_2558Fenit Samphires 7 – Listowel Celtic 1. It was a game of 2 halves as far as we were concerned. We did not perform well in the first but did quite well after halftime. We played against the wind in the first on a beautiful sunny day. The half was an even enough affair possession wise but our front 3 of Sean Higgins, Oisin O’Brien and Conor Lowe had the beating of their men and this yielded a goal from each of them. Our play was quite good at times but we went through long periods where we took too long on the ball and our first touch was not good which yielded a lot of possession to Listowel who could consider themselves a bit unlucky to be 3 nil down after 30 minutes after matching us around the pitch. Under 16s Ossie Clifford, Ciaran Carmody and Alan McElligott were our best players in this half. Listowel eventually gave themselves a lifeline with 2 minutes to go in the first half when they scored from a corner. We took the game to Listowel after the break with the help of the wind and our performance improved. Our wide players stayed wide, our forwards held the ball up and recycled, our midfield let the ball go early and our defence pushed up. Consequently we dominated proceedings against, it must be said, a very game Listowel team who kept going right to the end. Sean got another, Oisin got 2 and Sean Donnellan got in on the act with a goal from a corner in the last minute. Well done to the lads on the victory and to the Listowel team and their mentors for a good game.
