Seniors Advance in Munster Junior Cup

Munster Junior Cup 2nd Round- Kerry Area Semi Final

Fenit Samphires-1

Daniel Clinton

Inter Kenmare-0

Our seniors advanced to the Kerry Area Final of the Munster Junior Cup with a hard fought win against Inter Kenmare on Sunday morning. The pitch was in good knick but a bit soft following the rain last weekend, which meant it would be more difficult for us to get the ball down and play. Despite the conditions both teams were looking to play the ball around and we were dominant in the opening exchanges with Peter, Pa and Dano getting a lot of ball in the centre of the pitch. It was from wide areas that we looked dangerous though, with Bill and Darragh getting the better of their opposite numbers. We created a few chances throughout the half but didn’t test the Kenmare keeper enough. Defensively we looked solid with Barry rarely being tested in goals thanks to some good work from our back four of Klaudio, Ruairi, Darren and Rob. The half finished 0-0,

We needed to go in search of the opening goal and kept the pressure on right from kick off as we won possession straight away and Ivan Parker brought a great save from the keeper. Eventually we grabbed the opener when Ivan was taken down in the box and Dano stepped up to convert from the spot. Really we should have kicked on and controlled the game from here but we seemed to lose our shape for a period in the half which allowed Kenmare back into the game. The visitors didn’t create any chances of note throughout the half as we tried to close the game out. Thomas Phelan and Oisin O’ Brien were introduced late in the half and added some energy as we secured the win.

We will now play Killarney Celtic in the Kerry Area Final.
