Girls U12s & U14s: Pride of place this week goes to our newly formed girls teams who played the first competitive girls matches in the history of the club last Sunday when we travelled to Camp for a few friendlies against the hosts. We won some, drew some and lost some but great endeavour was shown by all the players on view not to mention high levels of skill. Our thanks to the Camp club for having us and for the hospitality they showed us on the day. Hopefully we will reciprocate at some time in the future. The girls will continue training on Fridays for the forseeable future and will continue to improve. Well done to all involved  and thanks too to the parents who supported us on the day.

Seniors: Munster Junior Cup 1st Round Killarney Ath 1 v 1 Samphires, Samphires win 4-3 on pens (Scorer Own Goal; Pens Daniel Clinton, Dave Sullivan, James Duggan, Eoghan O’Brien)

Tthe seniors good start to the season continued with a good win over Killarney Athletic in the Munster Junior Cup 1st Round. We defended well and when needed, Eoghan O’Brien behind them made his saves. In attack we felt we might have had more too but at the end it was level one all, our goal being an o.g. We won on penalties with Eoghan both saving their last one and scoring our last one for the win. This is the second year in a row Eoghan has done this which must be a unique feat and one for the record books. All the best to them in the next round.

U16s: Mastergeeha 2 v 1 Samphires (Scorer Edward Stack)

The U16s, captained by Richard O’Gara, suffered a defeat away to Mastergeeha last weekend. Mastergeeha were a bigger team than us and were very good with long throws which caused us all sorts of problems. At half time it was nil all with Paddy O’Sullivan in goals having made a couple of top class saves. But from a corner after 8 minutes into the second half we conceded. It was helter skelter to the end with both teams going after the next goal which came the away of the home team with 10 minutes to go. Edward Stack got one back for us 5 minutes later but we were unable to get the equaliser. Hard luck to all concerned after a determined performance.

U14s: Samphires 3 v 3 Killarney Ath (Scorers Robert Monaghan (2), Fiachra O’Connor)

Well done to the U14s last weekend after coming from behind in the last 5 minutes to rescue a point which was probably the least we deserved especially after a dominant first half. Our defending of counter attacks left quite a lot to be desired but our general play has improved recently and we are now starting to dominate games. We created quite a number of chances in this game and were 2 up at the half with Robert Monaghan and man of the match Fiachra O’Connor scoring for us. We continued to dominate in the second half but left ourselves wide open at the back and were unbelieveably 3-2 down with 5 minutes left. Thankfully Robert scored a late free to equalise and even though we forced another couple of chances we couldn’t force the ball home for the winner. 3 all it how it finished.
