Senior: Killarney Celtic 2 v 1 Samphires (Scorer Ger McCarthy)

Our Senior team had hard luck away to Killarney Celtic losing narrowly 2-1 in a game that was decided in the last few minutes. With both teams harbouring hopes of being involved at the business end of the season in May it was always going to be a close one to predict. We suffered a heavy defeat in this fixture last season and we were determined it would not happen again but the home side started quickly and scored early to put us on the back foot. Brian O’Regan in goals was a commanding figure for us behind our defence who were solid throughout and we regained parity around the pitch and possibly finished the first half the stronger. We carried this momentum into the second half but Killarney were dangerous on the counter. The game seemed to be put beyond our reach with 15 to go when we conceded a second but from here on we gave it our all and scored with 10 left through Ger McCarthy. Try as we did, we couldn’t force a clear cut chance after this to leave it 2-1 against us at the end. We will take heart from the performance though and all the players can be happy that each did his bit.

Under 12 Girls:

On Saturday last, our under 12 girls headed off to play Listowel Celtic for their most exciting match yet. We got off to a great start , with some fantastic attacks from the start by Lana Gaudino and Lilly Nowak who scored 2 goals early on in the game. Our defence line was tight and we had some great clearing of the ball by Ciara Collins and Katie FitzMaurice keeping Listowel away from our goals. Our midfields Grace O’Dowd and Maeve Trant kept Listowel on their toes with Alicia Cronin and Meah Carmody both scoring fantastic goals to bring the score at half time 4-2 to Fenit. The girls continued to put the pressure on in the second half. The strong defending from Cara Kelly and Charlotte Stack and the super saves from our goalkeeper Shauna Harris  kept us on top of the game. Grace O’Reilly and Nell Moriarty kept attacking and after some great attempts Lilly Nowak scored again to make it a hat trick for her. Fenit led for the entire match and after unfortunately missing a penalty, the girls began to tire towards the end of the match giving Listowel a chance to score a goal with 2 minutes to go ending the game in a draw 5-5. The girls fought to the end, they are improving massively every week and with continuous training , their skills and stamina will continue to grow. Keep it up girls!!!
