Coffee Morning Tuesday 18th Sept – Results 15th/16th Sept – Training Schedule

Thank you to all who supported the Coffee Morning last Tuesday in Fenit Parish Hall.

Seniors: Denny Premier A: Samphires 1 v 2 Killarney Athletic (Scorer Jamie Culloty)

Our seniors lost a tight game at home last Sunday in the season opener. A bit unfortunate not to have got a draw but we didn’t take the chances presented with newcomer Jamie Culloty getting our goal. Overall though our lads played well, defending well and creating chances against a good team but will be disappointed with the result.

Boys U14s: Samphires 3 v 2 Park B (Scorers Oisin McGibney, Billy Doyle, Ronan Kelly)

Our U14 Boys team kicked off the new season for the club last Saturday with a narrow 3-2 win against a good Park team. The game started at a frenetic pace but we were slightly dominant in the early exchanges but both teams were on top at different stages of the match. We had a number of chances to take the lead but spurned them all and after 20 minutes we conceded a penalty. Fortunately for us they both hit the bar and immediately Oisin McGibney scored a fine goal on the counter. Our 2 in midfield Rory Boyd and Alex McGrath both had fine games and showed a lot of maturity especially with their positional sense and distribution of the ball. We added to our lead early in the second half through Billy Doyle but after this the Park came back at us and scored with a fine shot with 8 minutes left. Local Fenit lad Ronan Kelly who had a fine game throughout, restored our lead with a goal almost immediately on his debut after a throughball from Barry Hamilton, which was badly needed as the Park scored again in injury time as we failed to clear our lines with fatigue creeping in, but we held on for the win. Well done to all the lads on both teams who gave it everything and gave us a most enjoyable game.

Girls: Samphires U12 Girls team travelled outside the county for the first time to Drinagh near Dunmanway for the National Cup. The girls were very competitive against Mildeton, Kenmare and Drinagh and put in fine performances which augurs very well for the future.

In particular there were great performance from Aoife O’Brien, Lilly Nowak & Ciara Collins. Special thanks to the Manager Arthur Nowak and all the parents who went along to support. Keep up the good work.
