Seniors: FAI Junior Cup – Castleisland 1 v 1 Samphires (Scorers Oisin O’Brien) Castleisland won 5-4 on pens

Our seniors lost out on penalties on Sunday away to Castleisland in the 1st round of the FAI Junior Cup with the score being 1 all in normal time. Another decent performance by our lads but again not finishing off the chances that we created let us down. Still it’s early days yet in the season with some young lads bedding in.

Girls U16: Killarney Ath 3 v 0 Samphires

The 16s girls lost out to Killarney Ath last weekend but were very competitive in all areas of the pitch. Athletic converted some of their chances and we didn’t, this being the main difference. Our best players were Dervla Jeffers and Katie Dwyer in defence and Grace Stack in goals made a number of good saves.

Boys U12A Park ‘B’ 1 v 4 Samphires  (Scorer Aaron Harty(4))

We played away  in St Brendan Park last Saturday against the Park ‘B’. We started strongly, attacked at every opportunity and won a lot of the 50/50 balls. A few early goals from Aaron Harty played in by Jayden Deady settled Fenit who after 15 minutes looked quite good. Midway in the 1st half Park started to get up to the speed of the game and launched a few attacks of their own. Our defence of  Dominic Regan, Jack MaCarthy and Cian McKenna was in top form and it was going to take something special to trouble Jack O’Dwyer in goals. Our midfield of Tom Quilter, Jack Nolan, Gregory Clifford and Charlie Nolan made all our 3 goals in the first half With Aaron Harty applying the finish each time. The 2nd half saw much of the same and we continued dominating with another goal from Aaron and Jayden providing. Towards the end Park started to press our defence and eventually scored to leave it Fenit 4 Park 1.

Girls U12 Samphires 3 v 6 MEK

The u12 girls started their league with a home game versus MEK. Fenit started very strong and scored first with a goal from Meah Carmody. MEK came back into the game and equalized leaving it 1 all at half time. At the start of the 2nd half we conceded 3 goals in quick succession which was disappointing but the girls fought back and started to create numerous chances. Meah scored a second and this was followed by a great finish by Grace Reilly leaving it 3 – 4. Fenit pushed for an equalizer and came very close when a shot from Grace O’Dowd was cleared off the line. MEK broke away a couple of times at the end to score 2 more, but this game could have gone either way.  Great performance from the defense in particular and Sarah O’Sullivan was outstanding in goal. Meah Carmody had a great game in midfield and the new players this season fitted in very well.
