Seniors:Munster Junior Cup – Samphires 6 v 3 Mitchel’s Avenue (Scorers Ger McCarthy(2), Ryan Downey(2), Jamie Culloty, Oisin O’Brien)

Well done to the seniors who won out in an absorbing match away to Mitchel’s Avenue last Sunday in the first round of the Munster Junior Cup. Goals from Ger McCarthy and Ryan Downey early in the game put us in the driving seat and though we conceded in the 30th minute we restored our lead almost immediately when Chris Murphy went on a searing run down the wing to cross for Ger to score his second. We started the 2nd half sluggishly and conceded a second but like in the first half we restored our lead soon after with another from Ryan. We added 2 more from Jamie Culloty and Oisin O’Brien late in the game either side of a 3rd from our opponents to leave it 6-3 in our favour at the end.

Girls U16 Samphires 2 v 4 Park  (Scorers Muireann O’Brien(2))

In our second game of the season we hosted the Park team in Fenit. Visitors took 2:0 lead early in the first half but the girls stayed positive and pressed and got a goal back, finishing at the break 1:2. We pushed hard for a second goal and we created a few good chances including hitting the crossbar on one occasion. Muireann O’Brien got her second goal for Fenit on the night to make it 2:3 but Park caught us on the break and scored one more at the end. Final score 2:4. Great performance from Katie Hussey, Daisy Nowak, Eimear O’Sullivan & captain on the day Saoirse O’Donovan.

Boys U14  Killarney Celtic B 2 v 2 Samphires (Scorers Tiernan O’Sullivan, Billy Doyle)

The 14s went to Killarney Celtic B last Saturday in a late kick off. Our lads did well and can feel a touch hard done by not coming away with 3 points. We took the lead through Tiernan O’Sullivan after good work by Barry Hamilton and Gearoid O’Connor down the right. We conceded near half time after we carelessly lost possession in front of our 18 yard box and despite Oran Murphy in goals making a good save we weren’t on hand to clear the rebound. Billy Doyle restored our lead in the second half after Ronan Kelly and Rory Boyd had combined well to change defence into attack. With 5 minutes to go we conceded a second to leave it 2 all at the end.

Boys U12A Samphires 9 v 1 Ballyhar (Scorers Aaron Harty(3), Jayden Deady (3), Tom Quilter(2), Cian McKenna)

Samphires 12s played at home against Ballyhar this Saturday in cold and wet conditions. We started strongly, winning a lot of ball but poor decisions let us down in the first 10 minutes. Ballyhar defended well and on the counter played a beautiful through ball to open up our defence and scored a spectacular goal. This woke us up, we had most of the possession and scored two goals with some lovely passes in from the wings. The 2nd half we looked the stronger and with Ballyhar short a few players from their squad, we played great soccer and scored with ease on a number of occasions. The score finished….. Fenit 9 Ballyhar 1. In addition to the scorers of Aaron Harty(3), Jayden Deady (3), Tom Quilter(2), Cian McKenna, our defence of Dominic Regan, Jack McCarthyJack and Charlie Nolan were excellent all through. Others who played well were Gregory Clifford and Kealen O’Dowd.

Girls U12 Samphires 0 v 5 Killarney Celtic B

In very wet conditions the u12 girls faced Killarney Celtic B on their second league game of the year at home in Samphire Park. Despite the miserable conditions the Fenit girls never failed to give their all against a strong Killarney team. Cara Kelly was outstanding in the centre of the defence all game. It was great to see new players this year Caitlin Savage, Aislinn Bellchambers and Lucy Jane McGearailt all playing their part.
