Results W/E 18/11/18 & Congrats to Fenit N.S.

Firstly this weekend we would like to offer our congratulations to our local primary school, St.Brendan’s NS, who won the county Cumann na mBunscol Plate last Friday evening in Austin Stack Park. Well done to all the players, many of whom are Samphires, and to their trainers.

A very busy weekend for the club with matches for the seniors, 17s, 15s, 13s, 12s and 11s and Girls U10s

Seniors: Listowel Celtic 2 v 3 Samphires a.e.t.(Scorers Ger McCarthy(2 Pens), Pa McCarthy)

The seniors bounced back from the defeat to Listowel last weekend with a victory away in the Munster Junior Cup. It was 1 all at half time, our goal from the spot through Ger McCarthy. The second half was a close affair but we thought we had it won when Ger again scored from another penalty with 2 minutes to go. We lost our concentration and conceded immediately to leave it 2 all after 90. We maintained our resolve though and put pressure on to get the winner and were rewarded with 2 minutes to go in extra time through Pa McCarthy who forced the ball home and this time we held on to our lead. Well done to all involved.

U17 Boys:(Scorers Dara Heim, Eoin Higgins, Conor Gaynor, Tadgh McKenna)

The 17s had a tough outing in Gallarus last weekend away to Dingle Bay Rovers. We played against the wind in first half and it was 2 all at half time our goals from Dara Heim and Eoin Higgins. What a second half it turned out to be. Dingle held nothing back and got very physical but our guys stepped up, matching every tackle.. After going 3-2 down we fought hard to deliver 2 excellent goals winning 4-3 the third from Conor Gaynor and the winner from Tadgh McKenna. We couldn’t pick a man of the match as all 14 gave 100% under the severest of pressure. Well done to all who travelled and we hope that the 16s on the team can bring the intensity they showed into their own team from now on.

U15 Boys:Ballyheigue 1 v 3 Samphires (Scorers Eddie McCarthy(2), Bobby O’Connor)

Our u15s played Ballyheigue on Saturday morning in Tralee. We started the game reasonably well but we were guilty of trying to play centrally through a strong and physical Ballyheigue team who were a much more organised team from the previous fixture but we still had most of the ball. We finally broke the deadlock with a fantastic through ball played by Dylan Ryan to put Eddie McCarthy in for his first. Soon after we won a penalty but unfortunately we failed to score. Ballyheigue battled really well and at ht, it was 1-1. The early part of the second half was an even contest and it wasn’t until the last five mins that our boys finished the game off with the second goal coming from Bobby O’Connor and a third from Eddie McCarthy in the last minute. Overall Ballyheigue played really well but some bad decisions from our boys made the contest closer than it should have been. Ben Donellan, who was man of the match for us, and Cillian Lynch played outstandingly in defence along with Keith O’Mahony in goals.

U13 Boys:Samphires 2 v 6 Park (Scorers Aaron Harty(2))

Our 13s played against a good Park ream last Sat in Fenit which ended up 6-2 to our opponents after a tough match. 2 defensive errors left us trailing before 10 minutes of the game had elapsed. We forced a number of chances but the Park keeper was in superb form and to make things worse we conceded a third late in the half but Aaron Harty got one back for us immediately. The second half continued to be a ding dong affair and either team could have scored and in the 7th minute both teams scored (Aaron again for us) and it was now 4-2. We threw everything at it but it was the Park who scored the crucial next goal and they added a 6th at the death. Well done to both teams for such a good match. Best for us were Tomas Godley, Billy Doyle and Aaron Harty.

U12 Boys:Samphires 0 v 6 Ballyheigue

Our 12 B team hosted Ballyheigue last Saturday afternoon in windy Fenit. Despite the scoreline our team had a decent game and showed improvement from the last few games. All the players gave their all and never gave up despite being under pressure for much of the game. Best for us were Jack O’Brien in goals, Seanie Jeffers, Sean Power and Alex Tuite.

U11 Boys:

The club hosted an U11 blitz last weekend in Samphire Park. The mentors of our 3 teams went all out to make sure everything went off well and it was a great success. It was very heartening to see the 4 (65 x35) pitches laid out and that we had 3 teams on show all of whom did very well. Our players mostly were under 10 but were still the equal of our opponents showing the work that is being done on a weekly basis by all the players and the trainers of these teams and great credit is due to them. The other clubs involved were Park who also brought 4 teams and Listowel Celtic who brought 2 teams. Each of the 9 teams played either 2 or 3 games and the games ran like clockwork with all the games played off over the course of 2-3 hours.

Girls U10s

Well done to u10 girls on a great performance in their opening blitz of the season. Two hard fought draws against Camp and Kenmare with a superb victory against Killarney was a great result for many playing their first game for Fenit Samphires today.  The future is bright for Fenit Samphires!
