Fenit Samphires had 4 girls this weekend playing for Kerry teams against Limerick Desmond league in first round of the Gaynor Cup qualifiers.
For Kerry U13 – Lilly Nowak and for Kerry U15 – Laura Reilly, Daisy Nowak and Muireann O’Brien. Well done to all of them.
U16s: Samphires 3 v 0 Killorglin B (Scorers Paddy Walsh, Eddie McCarthy(2))
Fenit played with the strong wind in the first half. With 5 minutes to go in half Paddy Walsh scored the first goal for Fenit. It was 1-0 to us at half time but with the wind it wasn’t loking good for us. In the second half and into the wind Fenit were the better side with attack after attack, keeping the ball down and passing well. Eventually with assists from Cian Cearney and Tommy Burns, Eddie McCarthy scored twice. Fenit finished 3-0 winners. 2 of our U15s, Dylan Ryan and Danny Jeffers played very well for us throughout in midfield.
U14s: Samphires 0 v 2 Killarney Athletic
Our boys 14s hosted Killarney Athletic last Saturday in a storm force wind blowing straight down the pitch and subsequently it was a game of 2 halves. We dominated the first half and though we played quite well we failed to score despite coming close a few times even missing a penalty. In fairness to Athletic they showed, in the final third, their quality and got through our defence a couple of times and capitalised once in each half to give them a 2-0 victory. We had the wind against us in the second half and defended well but our transition to attack left us down. Overall our boys gave as good as they got and we can be happy with our performance after some poor games recently.
U12 Girls: Killarney Athletic 1 v 11 Samphires (Scorers )
Our U12 girls travelled away to Killarney Athletic this Sunday for their 6th game of the season. On the back of a win they were confident and this showed on the pitch. The defence of Captain Cara, Riona, Sarah and Rachel were outstanding, midfielders Meah, Ciara, always going forward, the two Graces fantastic, Erin and Heather improving with every game, Aislinn and Sarah outstanding. Athletic had a very young team and we were physically stronger plus we really clicked on this day. It ended 11-0 to Fenit… Scorers Meah, Ciara, Grace, Sarah and Grace Reilly.
U12s: Samphires 3 v 0 Killarney Athletic B (Scorers Jayden Deady(2), Aaron Harty, Tom Quilter)
Fenit played at home against Killarney Athletic on what was a very windy day for our last match of 2018. Both sides were on top of the division so this match was extra special and as expected nerves and the weather elements dominated this match. Fenit with the gale force wind in the first half played all the soccer but Athletic defence was strong and very evident was Athletic’s counter attacks. From a free kick outside the box Jayden Deady hit a cracker which no goal keeper could save. With this lead Fenit grew in confidence and pressed for the rest of the half. Aaron Harty was put through by Jack Nolan to get a 2nd for Fenit and 5 minutes later Tom Quilter hit the top corner with a lovely through ball from Jayden. We knew the 2nd half was going to be a different story and Athletic put us under huge pressure for the last 30 minutes. With 5 minutes in Athletic got a penalty …. Jack Dwyer stood strong and pulled off a brilliant save. This lifed Fenit and the two Nolan’s, Cian McKenna, Gregory Clifford and Tom used the wings to great effect and were unlucky not the score a 4th. Jack in goals, Dominic Regan, Paddy Hanafin and Charlie Nolan dominated at the back and Athletic couldn’t find the breakthrough they were working so hard to get. Jayden played a more defensive role with Aaron menacing from midfield. Jack Nolan is getting stronger and stronger and nothing got passed him all day. The score finished 3-0…. a real team effort with everyone outstanding but Jack Dwyer was the pick of the bunch. So for 2018 Fenit top division 1. From Kevin, John and Dave we would like to wish everyone a happy X-mas….enjoy the holidays.
