Happy New Year to Everyone and Thank You to all who contributed our Annual Christmas Quiz last week.
Boys U15 Division 1 Samphires 2 v 1 Ratoo Rovers 1 (Scorers Cian O’Gara, Billy Walsh)
A tight game from start to finish finished with us squeezing out a narrow victory. We started poorly and our passing from the back was sloppy enough and we paid the price after 10 mins and found ourselves 1 nil down. The team responded however and it was nip and tuck. On 30 mins we equalised after Cian O’Gara scored with a drive from the edge of the box after some good build up play. 1 – 1 at halftime. We upped it again in the 2nd period with the substitiutes giving us impetus and with 15 minutes to go it got quite tetchey as we increased the pressure. We missed a penalty during this period of dominance but soon after Gearoid O’Connor drove into the box, gave it to Paddy Falvey who set Paddy Walsh up to score a super winner. Best for us on the day for us were Tomas Godley, Billy Walsh, Ethan Gaisey and Oisin McGibney.
Girls U13s: MEK Starz 6-0 Fenit Samphires Green.
A defeat for our girls in Green on their first outing after the Christmas break. In a very even first half MEK capitalised on a few opportunities and led 2-0 at half time. As our girls tired in the second half, MEK pushed on and punished us on the scoreboard eventually running out 6-0 winners. Despite the scoreline there were a lot of great performances from our 10 players and they can all be very proud of their efforts. We return to training on Wednesday in Banna 6 to 7. Thanks to all parents who travelled to support.
Boys U13 Division 2 Samphires B 3 v 1 Listowel Celtic B (Scorers Paddy Hanafin (2), Michael O’Sullivan)
Well done to our boys who performed very well last weekend in Fenit at home to Listowel. Listowel had the better of it in the first half and we rode our luck at times with Jack Lyne in goals saving a penalty plus they also hit the post. We grew into the game after the shaky start and started to create our own chances with Paddy Hanafin finishing a Michael O’Sullivan cross to give us a lead at the half. With Sean Power and Sean Jeffers at centre back and Peter O’Mahony and Jake Clifford helping out defensively we were solid and didn’t concede much in the second half. Up the pitch we had Gary Egan and Alex Tuite getting on the ball and setting up attacks for Michael and Patrick who got a goal each in the second half. We came under a lot of pressure near the end and Listowel hit the post again before eventually they got a deserved consolation to leave it 3-1 to us at the end.
Boys U11s:
U11’s had ETP( Emerging Talent Prgramme ) blitz’s in Killorglin on Sunday against LB Rovers, Mastergeeha and Park teams. Lots of effort and skill on display across the board – well done to all. This will take place again in two weeks time – venue and date/times to be confirmed.
