U16s Lose Out To Camp

Camp 5 – Samphires 4 – A game with everything as the old cliche goes. 9 goals, penalties for both teams, goals at the start and end of both ends, controversial decisions, the works – it had all of this but we have to be quite disappointed with our first half display at the end of which we were 5 – 1 in arrears. A good second half performance without being great at least was something to take from the game. The story of our first half was our complete lack of desire to compete in most areas of the pitch. Before half time 3 of our back 4 had been replaced but if this ware basketball with unlimited subs all bar one or two would have had some time on the line. Our lack of focus defensively is proving quite costly and as anyone involved in any sport will tell you, defending is 95% about attitude.Camp were very good on offence and very clinical, scoring almost all their clear-cut chances. On the other hand we probably had as many chances as our opponents but poor technique on the ground and in the air left Camp off the hook. In the second half we upped the intensity and Camp responded and it was a decent contest for about 20 minutes with both defences playing well for maybe the only time in the match but we really piled it on for the last 20 and created numerous chances of which we took 3 but missed many others quite often due to good pressure by the Camp rearguard. Our own defence had to be vigilante at this stage as were vulnerable to the counter and Camp do have a potent strike force. In the end we couldn’t force a result which we wouldn’t have deserved on our first half display
