U16s Out Of Cup

We bowed out of the Tucker Kelly Under 16 Cup last Saturday after a lacklustre display away to Park B on a score of 3-1. We never really got to the pitch of the game and the scoreline was a fair reflection of what happened on the pitch. The home team started with an intensity and we had to defend for the first period of the game. It didn’t help that we played against a strong breeze but our back five of Eoghan O’Brien in goals, Jamie Hogan,Jack McCarthy, Padraig O’Connor and Thomas Dwyer were resolute in their defence. We took the lead after a period of good play culminating in a free kick expertly taken by Bobby O Regan, their keeper failed to hold and Thomas Lenihan finished with a top class finish. We were on the back foot then until half time and really were our own worst enemies as we failed to get control of the ball for any great length of time and this has been a feature of our game recently where we had been playing good stuff previously. Nearing halftime we conceded from 25 yards after we failed to close down the space in front of our box. 2nd Half-The second half was reasonably even and it was apparent that the team who scored first was going to be in the driving seat. We played on the break and we had a great chance to score when Cian MacGarry forced his way through but was foiled by a superb save by the Park keeper. 10 minutes from the end we conceded when we didn’t clear in our box and 2 minutes later we had a repeat and that was it 3-1. Subs Antóin Stanton, Luke Dalton and Dara O’Connor did well when introduced in the second half.
