Seniors Hit Spa Road For Five

Fenit v Mastergeeha 2014

Denny Premier B

Fenit Samphires-5

Kieran O’ Mahony, Ger McCarthy (2), Daniel Clinton (2)

Spa Road-0

Our seniors continued their push for promotion with another convincing win over Spa Road at Samphire Park on Sunday morning. Although the pitch was heavy in places it had held up well considering the weather over the past week. We set our stall out early in the game as we dominated possession and as usual Ger Mac and Dano were causing all sorts of problems for the visitors. Our wingers Bill Mullins and Klaudio Dema were seeing a lot of the ball in the opening exchanges as we pinned Spa Road into their own half as we pressed for an opener. The first goal duly arrived when our marauding full back Kieran O Mahony scored with a low drive from the edge of the box. We had looked a bit anxious before scoring but the goal settled us as Peter McCarthy and David O Sullivan controlled the game well from midfield. Ger Mac scored our second with a cheeky lob that just managed to cross the line. 2-0 at half time.

The second half continued in the same manner as we moved the ball around well looking to finish the game off. John Moran at left back and centre halves Darren Lynch and Ruairi Kelly looked solid throughout which meant Barry Galvin in goals didn’t have many shots to deal with. Dano scored his first goal early in the half when he finished from a Ger Mac cross and he added his second shortly after. Ray Walsh and Tommy McCarthy were introduced in the second half and with their fresh legs we pushed on for more goals. Our fifth goal arrived when Ger scored his second and that proved to be the end of the scoring.

Thanks to Spa Road for a sporting game and thanks to referee Seamus O Mahoney for officiating. Our senior team play Tralee Dynamos in the Munster Junior Cup next Sunday which should prove to be a competitive, entertaining game.
