Seniors Bow Out Of Munster Junior Cup

Fenit v Dynamos 1

Munster Junior Cup

Tralee Dynamos-2

Fenit Samphires-0

Fenit’s senior team were knocked out of the Munster Junior Cup by a very good Tralee Dynamos side in Cahermoneen last Sunday morning. We knew it would be a tough game having played Dynamos twice last season and the game started with Dynamos keeping possession well, while we looked to hit them on the break. This counter attacking gameplan worked well for us in the past but we struggled to break effectively during the first half as Dynamos kept the pressure on. In goals, Eoghan O Brien made a couple of outstanding saves while Fenit’s back four of Kieran O Mahony, Darren Lynch, Ruairi Kelly and John Moran continued to work hard in restricting our opponents’ chances in front of goal. Ger McCarthy and Daniel Clinton up front weren’t getting the best service but looked threatening at times along with Sean Foley and Bill Mullins on the wings. Half time saw the game scoreless, mostly due to our work rate and resilience when we were defending.

The second half continued in the same pattern with our centre midfield duo Peter McCarthy and David O Sullivan seeing a little bit more of the ball. Midway through the half Dynamos took the lead after finishing from a quick free kick. This seemed to release the shackles a little bit as we got more adventurous with Dano, Ger, Bill and Chick running at the Dynamos defence creating a few chances. Klaudio Dema, Tadgh Fleming and Ray Walsh were introduced and added some energy to the team as we went searching for an equalizer. As we pressed forward Dynamos broke well and scored a second goal to finish the game off. It was a difficult game for our young side and we must learn from it as we continue to push for promotion to Premier A.

Thanks to referee Stuart Templeman for officiating and best of luck to Dynamos as they progress in the tournament.
