Denny Premier A

Camp United-1

Fenit Samphires-5

Ger McCarthy(2), Sean Foley, Ryan Dolan, Oisin O’Brien

Our seniors started life in Premier A with a comfortable win away to Camp on Sunday morning. Conditions weren’t ideal but the pitch was in decent condition which allowed us to get the ball down and play. We dominated from the off with Ryan Dolan and Ger McCarthy causing problems for the hosts, who resorted to some tough ‘tackling’ to stop our attacks. Dano Clinton and Peter McCarthy were seeing a lot of the ball and released Sean Foley and Sean Allen on the wings time and again. We had created a few chances early on and took the lead when Ger Mac finished from close range after being teed up by Ryan. The lead was doubled when Chick got in behind the defence and squeezed in a shot from a tight angle. Camp had rarely threatened our goal with keeper Barry Galvin comfortable throughout the half thanks to some solid defending from our back four of Klaudio Dema, Ruairi Kelly, Darren Lynch and John Moran. Unfortunately John picked up an injury midway through the half and he was replaced by Bill Mullins. Shortly after Chick saw red after he tangled with his opposite number and we had to finish out the game with 10 men.

The second half would prove a more difficult task for us as Camp tried to put the pressure on. We dealt with the pressure well and the hosts didn’t create any decent chances while we were able to hit them on the break at will. Ryan’s pace was causing problems as Camp tried to play a high line and he scored our third when he rounded the keeper brilliantly and finished. We introduced Oisin O’Brien and Thomas Phelan as we looked to close out the game. Camp pulled one back when they scored from a corner but Ger Mac got his second goal shortly after when he chipped the keeper after another good counterattack. Oisin grabbed our fifth when he rounded the keeper well and finished passed a couple of defenders.
