We hosted Tr
alee Dynamos last weekend in our first home league match of the season. We lost away to Park in our last game after a sluggish performance and were looking to bounce back. Both teams were up for the game as both went on the hunt for 3 points. Dynamos had the better of it early on and played some smashing football but our defence of Brian O’Regan(gk), David Lenihan, Ciaran Carmody, Ossie Clifford and Dean Meehan held firm. Gradually we got into the game through Sean Donnellan and Sean Collins in the centre of midfield. The game was tight with neither team able to penetrate but eventually after 25 mins Christopher Murphy put us one up after a tremendous counter down the left involving Cormac O’Brien and Conor Lowe. On the right Alan McElligott was doing trojan work breaking up attacks and playing some good passes. On 35 minutes when it looked like we were comfortable a series of misplaced passes yielded possession to Dynamos who countered superbly to score an excellent goal. Immediately after Chris got through only to be pulled back in the box but we missed the subsequent penalty. We carried on pressing and got a series of corners and from one of these Dynamos conceded an own goal to let it 2-1 to us at the interval. In the 2nd period we played against the strong breeze but our midfield were having a great game and Dynamos were restricted to long range efforts. On the other hand we got in behind them a few times and only for good goalkeeping and some top class defence by their central defenders we would have taken the lead a number of times.We introduced Ed Moynihan and Jack Lynch on the right and both put in a great shift to deny Dynamos space down their left flank. After 30 minutes our pressure told and some great interplay in the last third of the pitch got Conor in and he unselfishly squared for Chris to tap in for what transpired to be the winner.
