Under 17s Win At Home

Samphires 2 Castlegregory 0 – that’s the way it ended after an excellent contest in the Kerry U17 league last Saturday in windy Fenit. We scored our 2 goals in the first 10 minutes through Conor Lowe and Christopher Murphy after a blistering start and it looked like it was going to be an easy day at the office but nothing could have been further from the truth as Castlegregory came back to make a real fight of it. It was a 14 man effort by our lads as all 3 subs who came on all made really telling contributions in addition to the Trojan efforts of the 11 who started. We played some nice soccer throughout the game but could not break down the Castlegregory defence and when they countered we had to be alert. In particular their set pieces were threatening but we just about coped. As the game wore to a close we eventually got at their goals but some stern defending and an excellent goalkeeper kept the score at 2 nil. Well done to both teams on an excellent game in difficult conditions.
