U18s Top Their Group To Qualify For Play Offs

SeanHOisinWell done to our U18 team who drew with the Park last Saturday in the league thus topping the division and therefore qualified for the semis of the competition later in the season. The match was played in the KDL all weather pitch in Tralee as our own pitch is still unplayable after the continuing bad weather but we hope to return to our pitch in the near future. The score at the end was 2 each with the Park leading on 2 occasions. We were not our usual selves with a fair amount of indecision and slow passing on show for the first half. The Park were the better team for the first 20 minutes and were duly rewarded when they pounced on a loose ball after we failed to clear a corner in the 20th minute. We upped it a bit and got more control on the ball through Thomas Lenihan and Sean Donnellan in midfield. This released wingers Conor Lowe and Oisin O Brien who started to cause problems but the Park held out to the half. Our defence of Brian O’Regan, Darren Chester, Ossie Clifford, Ciaran Carmody and Dean Meehan were on top and kept us in the game especially during the first half when we were under pressure at times. We pushed on in the second half and in particular Bobby O Regan and Sean Higgins were to the fore ever before we forced the equaliser which came after Bobby delivered a beautiful through ball to Oisin who finished clinically. We would have hoped to exert more pressure at this stage but a loose pass at the back allowed a snapshot from the edge of our box which looped into the top corner and we were back to square one. Even though we weren’t at our best, our lads showed good spirit and went after another goal which eventually came after Oisin on the wing beat 2 opponents and clipped a beauty to the far post where sub Christopher was on hand to finish. Again it was heartening to see our subs (Tommy Lynch, Cormac O Brien and Christopher) coming on and giving us huge impetus when we needed it. The game got stretched towards the end and a draw was how it finished. Well done again to all our squad on winning the division.
