U13s Boys

U13s Crowned Champions

Samphires 5 v 0 Killorglin B (Scorers Paddy Falvey, Gearoid O’Connor, Alex McGrath, Billy Doyle, Billy Walsh)
Our 13s hosted Killorglin last weekend in a crucial top of the table clash last Saturday on a beautiful day in Fenit and the pitch was in perfect condition. The game started with a minute’s silence followed by a round of applause for the late Georgie O’Callaghan from Castleisland who passed away last week. From the first minute our boys were on their game and had Killorglin on the back foot. After a couple of near misses we scored from a shot from the edge of the box by Paddy Falvey who was excellent throughout. Gearoid O’Connor capitalised on a mistake after 20 minutes to make it 2 and Alex McGrath scored a peach of a chip on the stroke of half-time for our third. 2nd Half – Killorglin came into the game after the break and we played on the counter with Tiernan O’Sullivan and Oisin McGibney a threat for us but Oran Murphy in our goals had to be alert and prevented a number of goals. Defenders Billy Walsh, Tomas Godley, Gary Riordan and Josh Elvins were solid throughout but on the right Donagh Murphy and Barry Hamilton combined very well and created havoc down the wing. We introduced a number of players in the second half and each of them played very well. We scored 2 late goals, one from a penalty after Oisin was taken down which Billy Doyle converted and finally Billy Walsh came up from the back to score on full time. After the match we found out that we had clinched the league with other results going in our favour. Well done to all the boys on a superb achievement.
U12 Girls
Camp 6 v 1 Samphires (Scorer Meadhbh Carmody)
Fenit Samphires Girls U12 on away game against Camp Juniors Girls U12. It was a good effort from the Samphires girls against more experienced Camp team. A strong breeze in first half had us on back foot for most of the game. We had a much better second half with a few good scoring opportunities.  We had 13 players available for this game and all played to the best of their abilities and we managed to score in second half through Meah Carmody. Well done to all the girls and thanks again to those who came to support
Note – Samphires would like to express our sadness on hearing the news that Georgie O’Callaghan passed away last weekend after a short illness. He was the driving force behind the Castleisland club for years and was known far and wide throughout the county and the country. He will be missed not only by his family and his club but his loss will be felt by all those involved in soccer and sport in general in the county and beyond. He was an example to us all. Ar dheis Dé lena anam.
