Seniors: Broadford 3 v 1 a.e.t. Samphires (Scorer Ger McCarthy)

Hard luck to the senior team who lost out in Broadford, Limerick in the Munster Junior Cup last Sunday. It was a hard fought game ,1 all at full time our scorer being Ger McCarthy. We conceded in extra time early on and went again for the equaliser leaving ourselves a bit open at the back and it was Broadford who scored next to win 3-1 and we wish them the best of luck in the rest of the competition.

U17s: Samphires 2 v 0 Dingle Bay Rovers (Scorers Liam Tobin, Eoin Higgins)

We played Dingle last Sat in the league. The team played well with good passing play in first half had us 2-0 at the break against a slightly bigger team. In the second half played with the wind and came close a number of times, slightly overhitting a number of passes. We saw out the game defending strongly and counter attacking down the wings but neither team added to their total leaing us 2 goals to the good at the final whistle. Well done lads.

U12 Girls: MEK 3 v 3 Samphires (Scorers Eva Nolan, Mia Carmody and Elisha Deady)

Our U12 girls played away to MEK in Fossa on Saturday. This team is gathering momentum and hopes were high. We had a few out with illness but still managed to field 12 on the day. Fenit started the strongest and had MEK on the back foot immediately. We pushed at every moment and were rewarded with a great goal by captain Eva Nolan. This woke MEK up and started to play some great soccer using the wings to great effect. In fact it was one of these moves that they equalized but we responded with two quick attacks and got two quick goals through Mia Carmody and Elisha Deady. We got to half time 3-1 up. While we started the 2nd half well we tend to tire in the 2nd half and a lack of concentration cost us a goal but we were still winning. May O’Connell was outstanding, Charlotte a rock, Meave always in control, Erin, Heather and Rachel attacking, with Ciara a bundle of energy. We lost the ball in our box with 5 to go and while goalie Anna was in top form there nothing she could do to stop the equalizer. We moved Emily Rose to centre and this steadied the ship and finished with a draw but could have won this one with more composure. Well done to all the girls.
