Seniors: Samphires 0 v 3 Listowel Celtic
Our senior team’s poor run of results continued last Sunday in Tralee where we played Listowel in a league fixture. Again we played well and competed but lost out in both boxes. We conceded from a cross-shot which we failed to deal with in the middle of the first half but after this played quite well till the half. 3 minutes into the second half we went 2 down after giving away a penalty. After this Listowel took control of the game and scored a third near the end. Best for us were Dave O’Sullivan and Chick Foley, both in midfield.
Boys U12B Castleisland 4 Fenit 4 (Scorers: Sean Cronin(2), Diarmuid Murphy, Gavin Deasy)
A terrific match between two committed teams. We started off strongly and put on early pressure. We scored the first with a scooped effort from Sean Cronin after a through ball from Fionn McGuire. Despite being one up some of our passing was poor and we took too long on the ball. Castleisland responded well and broke through the centre to equalise. Half-time 1-1.
We started strongly in the 2nd half and started to try and spread the ball out to the wings. Despite this we conceded two sloppy goals with poor defending and decision making and it appeared we were going lose out. However with Gavin Deasy and Eoghan Wiseman coming on as subs and a restructured formation we started to put on renewed pressure and scored with a fine finish by Diarmuid Murphy. However we conceded again shortly afterwards after a goal mouth scramble. Undeterred, we responded and piled on the pressure. We scored through Sean Cronin again and then Gavin Deasy with a great finish. We pushed for another but couldn’t quite get the winner in an end to end finish with both sides going all out for it. Overall an exciting game and great comeback from Fenit. Best for us Sean Cronin.
