U18s vs Killarney Celtic Feb 2023

Boys U18s: Killarney Celtic 2 v 7 Samphires (Scorers: Niall Collins(3), Oran Murphy Jayden Deady, Alex Hoare Noah Townsend)

Our Youth tream advanced to the the Premier A League playoffs with plenty to spare after an emphatic away win in Killarney on Tuesday night. Playing into the wind and driving rain, Fenit went behind not just once but twice to the home side in a frenetic opening quarter hour. Killarney went ahead twice after scoring from two set pieces, after 5 and 12 minutes respectively, only to be reeled on in within a couple of minutes on each occasion . Oran Murphy volleyed home the first equaliser after good work by Billy Walsh and Niall Collins scored his first and our second following further good work by Alex Hoare. After the four opening goals, the remainder of the first half was very stop- start in nature which didn’t help our cause. However, before halftime Niall Collins made it 3-2 to us, coolly tucking the ball away after being put in the clear with just the keeper to beat. Substitutions either side of the halftime break allowed Samphires to increase the tempo and take control the game, with young bucks Cian McKenna and Aaron Harty impressive. Celtic were now constantly on the back foot, and our crisp passing game and movement yielded four more goals courtesy of further one from Niall Collins in addition to Alex Hoare , Noah Townsend and Jayden Deady, who scored again from a corner in successive games.

Team: Chute, O’Connor (Townsend 40 mins) Boyd (Gaisey 68 mins) Deady, Tansley (Capt.) O’Gara ( Mc Kenna 52 mins) O Murphy, S Murphy, Collins, Hoare, Walsh ( Harty 56 mins)

Boys U16s: Samphires 7 v 0 Listowel B (Scorers: Aaron Harty, Jayden Deady, Charlie Nolan, Jack Nolan(pen), Gregory Clifford, Noah O’Carroll, Conor Dennehy)

Well done to the 16s who started their Cup campaign in emphatic style against a game Listowel team. We were on top for long periods of time but didn’t break the deadlock until 10 minutes to the half with a well drilled free into the top corner from Jayden. 3 more goals followed in quick succession from Gregory, Charlie and Jack. Listowel got their game together after half time, it was even for a while but again like the first half we scored towards the end of the half through Aaron, Noah and Conor.

Boys U15 Div 1 Killarney Celtic 3 v 0 Samphires
A loss for the U15’s but a much better performance. We were still down 3 strong players but the players that came in did a great job, and we were very unlucky to lose by such a margin. We started off well and played all the football but lacked a little in terms of penetration and creating clear chances. We got hit with a sucker punch however before 1/2 time with a fine finish into the corner.
We came out in the 2nd half and with Sean Hickey up front we started to create a few 1/2 chances. We got hit again however with a breakaway goal to put us 2-0. We fought back and had a penalty appeal turned down after Sean Hickey got pulled back and a goal from Cillian O’Brien disallowed for offside. We were on top now but try as we might, we could not finish off our chances.   With time running out as we pressed forward, we conceded a final goal in last few minutes. The score line doesn’t reflect the game and we were well in it and played some good football. Best for Fenit was Danny Gazi at centre -half who was immense playing up 2 levels.

U12s vs Killorglin Feb 2023

Boys U12s: Killorglin 1 v 7 Samphires (Scorers: Cody Deady, Jack Corridon(2), Zach Kearney(2), Jamie Hussey, Evan Neary)

We travelled to Killorglin for the 1st round of the U12s Cup this afternoon with only 9 players we had a big ask of the players fitness. We started very well with our striker Cody putting pressure on the Killorglin back line doing some fantastic skills and narrowly putting the ball wide of the post Killorglin pressed us well but our lads were well drilled to stop the attack with Evan, Cormac and Eoin across the back line and jack just sitting in front of them nothing was getting passed them. After 5 minutes in, Zach put us 1 up with fantastic play by Tom and Jamie. From the tip off Fenit kept up the hard work with our keeper Patrick had some lovely saves and pin point kick outs today. Fantastic work rate by the lads today. Well done all.

Community Games: Well done to the lads who came away with 4th place in the Cummunity Games. We were within a whisker of making it to the final but just lost out by a late goal in the semi which could have gone either way.

Condolences: The club would like to send our sympathies to the Reilly family on the passing of Diarmuid’s dad Joe recently. Ar dheis Dé lena anam.
