Boys U16: Samphires 2 v 6 Listowel Celtic(Scorer Eddie McCarthy (1 Pen))

A tale of 2 halves for us last Saturday. After a super opening period for us where Eddie McCarthy scored twice for us, we failed to defend with any intensity for the rest of the half and conceded 5 goals, most of them gift wrapped for Listowel who must have felt Chrismas came early. We put in a superb 2nd half and created a number of chances after periods of dominance so at least we take heart from that. Listowel scored with the last kick of the game to wrap it up on a cold but sunny day. Best for us Ben Donnellan, Eddie McCarthy, Bobby O’Connor and David Dineen.

Girls U15: Samphires 0 v 6 Killarney Celtic (0:4 HT). This afternoon, we played against league leaders in a very tight and entertaining game in nice but cold conditions. Playing against the wind in the first half was tough going but we managed to hold off Celtic until 25 min, when we conceded a goal from a rebound, after our goalkeeper made a great save. Celtic kept pressing on and we lost another couple goals late in the first half. Once again, we played much better in second half, creating 4 or 5 goal chances but Celtic’s keeper managed to save most of our shots. As we only had 11 available players, there was no chance of bringing on any substitutes. Well done to all players who worked very hard for the full game, continue to improve and never gave up until final whistle.

Boys U12 Div 2 North Samphires U12B 0 v 9 Ballyheigue

We suffered a bad defeat on Saturday morning against a strong Ballyheigue team who have dropped down from Div 1. We struggled in the first half against the wind and conceded early despite some great saves from Hugh McGuire in goals. We went in 4-0 down at half-time. We rallied to a certain extent in the 2nd half and played some nice football but we still failed with basic defending and getting to the speed of Ballyheigue’s play. Best for Fenit was Hugh McGuire who had his best game in goal and couldn’t be faulted for any of the goals.

Tuesday Night

U12 Div 1 Castleisland 2 Fenit Samphires 2

We concede a soft goal in the first few minutes of this postponed match but put the pressure on to equalise through Luke O’Carroll with a fine finish. We then went 2-1 up with a great striker’s goal from Mikey Corridon after a lovely ball through from Dara Harty. Half-time 1-2 to Fenit.

In the 2nd half we had numerous chances to go further ahead and dominanted the game but the Castleisland keeper was in fine form. This came back to haunt us as Castleisland started to put us under pressure with 5 minutes to go and we started to tire a lttle. The equaliser for Castleisland came in the last minute and was a scrappy affair. We played very well for the majority of the match and deserved to win this. Still in the hunt for top spot however with a number of teams all fighting for points.Best for Fenit Dara Harty in midfield.
