Boys U13s: Samphires 4 v 5 Killarney Celtic (Scorers: Mikey Corridan 3 , Michael O’Sullivan 1)
We lost our opening game this season in a pulsating see-saw match on Saturday. This was a strong Killarney Celtic team who have come down from the Premier division but we matched them in the earlier encounters and deservedly went 1 up after a fine finish from Mikey Corridan after a mazy run. We dominated at this stage and missed a number of other chances but were hit with a sucker punch just before the break when a long ball broke through our defence and the Killarney centre forward showed good pace to finish.
Second half we again started strongly and went 2-1 up through a real striker’s poked finish from Mikey who had the Killarney defence in all sorts of problems. However Killarney pushed back and scored three goals in a row. Our defence was a little at sea at times and it will have to improve as the season goes on. 4-2 at this stage and Killarney looked to have sealed the points. However we fought back and the lads showed great determination to get two goals back. At this stage we thought we could get a winner in the last few minutes but in our eagerness we allowed a ball in behind and gave away a penalty which Killarney converted to seal the win. A hard result to take but great work and determination from all.
