Boys U17s National Cup Round 3 Corduff (DDSL) 9 v 0 Samphires

Samphires U17s Nov 21

Our Boys 17s exited the at the last 32 stage of the National Cup on Sunday last at the hands of potential tournament winners and Dublin District League leaders Corduff. Traveling to the fixture  with just 13 players, our manpower was further reduced when Oran Murphy was unable to start due to an ankle injury. Nevertheless Fenit took to the field against their very highly talented opponents including in their number, a few players who will, no doubt, signing for professional clubs in the near future. We defended for our lives and attacked whenever possible, despite the evident gulf in class. Three nil down at halftime, our boys continued to work tirelessly in the 2nd half, creating a number of half chances. But with just one substitute, the brave efforts took its toll, and with less than 10 minutes remaining and 6 nil down, the entire team was now running on empty. Three quick goals for Corduff in as many minutes before the end completed the scoring. Despite the result , it was still a great experience for the lads to play at such a high level in a competitive fixture, which was acknowledged by everybody present at the game.  Two wins from three at National Cup level was still a great achievement for this talented group.

Kennedy Cup: Well done again to Jayden Deady who played a starring role for Kerry in the Kennedy Cup in the victory away to Kilkenny in a closely fought encounter last Sunday where Kerry won by the slenderest margin 1 nil. Congrats to all the players and manager Billy Stack and all the management team.

U14 Girls Caherciveen 1 v 0 Samphires

The u14 Girls travelled to Caherciveen for game versus Iveragh United. We were very slow to settle and Iveragh scored in the middle of the first half and it was 1 nil at the half. While our girls tried their best in the second half, the equaliser would just not come. Disappointing for us but some positive moments throughout the match. Well done on a great effort girls. Keep training and the results will come.

Samphires U12s Nov 2021

U14s Boys Div 1 St Brendan’s Park 6 v 4 Samphires (Scorers Mikey Corridan(3), Diarmuid Murphy)
We lost a highly entertaining game in St Brendan’s Park against a strong Park team. We started brightly and went one up with fine finish from Mikey Corridan off his left foot. Park fought back however and equalized through sloppy defensive play after an attack down the left. We went 2-1 up through Mikey again who was terrorizing the Park defence. Park pushed on however and equalized and then went two up with two break away goals from their centre forward. Our defence work was poor too often where we failed to track and defend one on ones. HT 4-2….
Second half we started brightly after a few substitutions and pulled one back after a fine run from Mikey again. Park replied however with a shot from their left winger after again poor defending from Fenit letting men inside too easily. However we fought back again and scored from Diarmuid Murphy after a pull back from Mikey Corridan. We again pushed on and how a couple of half-chances to equalise but Park got the final goal with a lucky mis-kick looping into the top corner. Best for us was Mikey Corridan.

U12 Kerry SchoolGirls League Div 1 Castleisland 4 v 0 Samphires
A score that didn’t quite reflect the game as a whole fairly as Fenit Samphires went down to two goals either side of half time but were well in this game for large spells. Just one of those days but as always the commitment and enthusiasm of the players unquestioned. Well done all and there will be better days to come!

Samphires U12s Nov 2021

U12 Kerry SchoolGirls League Premier Inter Kenmare 2 v 2 Samphires (Scorers: Evie O’Sullivan, Ava Flaherty)

A superb comeback from 2 nil down with 2 minutes to go saw Samphires grab a well deserved 2-2 draw against a strong Inter Kenmare side. A never say die attitude and great performance by our players saw us leave Kenmare with a point. Well done all!

Samphires U11s Teams vs Park Nov 21

Boys U11s: Our U11s travelled to St Brendans Park for two games last Saturday morning. Well done to all the lads. Despite pretty poor starts in our matches, the boys acquitted themselves well thereafter against two strong Park teams. Some good play on show by us at times and improved as games went on. We’ll keep up the hard work at training but we must make a better effort at bringing what we do at training into the matches.
