Historic Day For Samphires & Results W/E 28/11/2021

Senior Ladies: Classic FC 5 v 1 Fenit Samphires (Scorer Muireann O’Brien)

Samphires Senior Ladies Team Nov28 2021

Our Ladies team played our first ever league senior fixture on a historic day for the club and our first ever first goal at this level was scored by Muireann O’Brien to put us 1:0 up in first half. Our Senior Ladies team is very young (average age of 16) as the players start to come through the underage ranks put in a great performance, considering we didn’t have any scope for subs in second half but we still created some scoring opportunities. We tired as the game progressed and Classic took over in midfield and ran out comfortable winners. All our players though deserve to feel proud after this game and we couldn’t have asked for any more. The team can take a whole lot of positives from this first outing in the senior division and if they continue to put in the work at training it will pay off. The club would like too to acknowledge the efforts over the past 5 years or more with the girls by all the coaches especially plus our parents, supporters, sponsors and anyone else that have helped our girls out.

Senior Men: Samphires 1 v 2 Freebooters (Kilkenny) (Scorer Peter MacCarthy)

The seniors went out of the FAI Junior Cup against a top team from Kilkenny last Sunday in a game of high quality. Our lads played very well but came up against an excellent side who had the better of it on the day. Again we will benefit greatly from playing against these top sides as we progress and these are the standards that all the club teams should aim to achieve every match.

Boys U15s: Killorglin B 3 v 5 Samphires (Scorers Charlie Nolan(2), Jack Nolan, Aaron Harty, Jayden Deady)

Samphires 15s travelled to Killorglin last Saturday to play their B team in a league fixture. Again we didn’t play well in the first half with too many players passive, not going to the ball. We didn’t vary our game either and made it easy for Killorglin to nullify us. In addition Killorglin applied a press which was another problem for us as we weren’t able to play through it or over it. We took the lead though through Charlie Nolan who chipped the advancing keeper from 30 yards after being put through by Jack McCarthy. Killorglin equalised deservedly when they get through our midfield and defence too easily and chipped Jack in goals who had no chance. They pushed on to the half with the benefit of the wind and scored again to leave it 2 1 at HT. In the 2nd half our boys bucked themselves up and started to get into the game especially in midfield with Jayden, Cian and Kealan to the fore. Jack Mac and Jack twin at centre back were solid for us with Thomas, Alex and Bobby getting on top in their own battles with their wingers. Noah, Aaron and Charlie in attack were starting to pose a threat as the half progressed. Charlie, Aaron and Jack twin all scored for us to put us in the driving seat but we conceded pen with 5 minutes to go and it was 4-3. It was left to Jayden to finish the game with a super free into the top corner and we won eventually 5-3 against a very game Killorglin team. Well done to both teams for a very good contest

Girls U12s Div 1 Result: Samphires 3 Listowel Celtic 3

A great game in tough conditions as Fenit Samphires showe great character once again to come from 3-1 down to snatch a draw and could have easily won it in the closing stages. Well done again everyone!

Boys U12s: Listowel Celtic 0 v 4 Samphires (Scorers Cillian O’Brien(2), Cody Deady, Tadgh Diggins)

Our U12’s continued their unbeaten run with a great victory away at Listowel Celtic. Despite completely dominating the first half the sides remained goalless at HT. Samphires started the second half again on top but a quick breakaway almost saw the home team take a 1-0 lead however the Fenit keeper Fionn O’Connor made a great save to keep the sides level. That scare seemed to galvanise the boys and shortly after Samphires went 1 up – Cillian O’Brien netting the goal after some great approach play from Conor Nolan. The team continued to dominate and struck again shortly after through Cody Deady. With confidence now high we scored 2 further goals one from Tadgh Diggins and another from Cillian O’Brien to record a great win. Final score 4-0 to Samphires.

Boys U11s:

Our U11s played two games versus Listowel Celtic in really tough conditions in Fenit on Saturday morning. Really good performance from both teams with the work at training being applied well in games.
Our U10s played LB Rovers on Saturday morning in Ardfert. Again the lads gave it everything and the improvement is there with every game. Well done all.
