Samphires Christmas Fundraiser 2021 & Results W/E 12/12/2021 & 19/12/21

Unfortunately again this year, we will not be hosting our annual Christmas quiz due to the ongoing Covid pandemic. But we are going ahead with a repeat of the fundraiser we had last year…

As you go down this page of this page you will find all the teams in the Premiership divided into 4 groups.

Each team will play 4 games from Dec 18th to Jan 3rd (Matchdays 18,19,20,21)…Click here to see the fixtures or copy and paste the following into your browser…

We ask you to pick 1 team from each group….the Rules are as follows: As with any match, every time any of your teams win a game you get 3 points, a draw gets you 1 point and a loss gets you zero points.

In addition, your teams earn an additional point for each goal they score in each match (irrespective of whether they win, lose or draw).

So for example, if Leeds beat Man City 2-1, Leeds would get 5 points for that match, 3 for the win and 2 more because they scored 2 goals….Man City would get 0 points for the loss and 1 point for the goal they scored.

If the match had been 2-2 draw, both teams would get 1 point for drawing and an additional 2 points for the 2 goals they scored, giving them 3 points each.

You can submit your 4 teams to the manager/coach of your child’s team either at training or on WhatsApp. Remember pick 1 team from each group…If you submit an incorrect team, a team will be picked for you.

There will be a prize to the value of 50e for 1st, 30e for 2nd and 20e for 3rd.If you choose to enter, the cost will be 10e which we ask you bring to training before Dec 17th.

Results W/E 12/12/21 & 19/12/21

Senior Ladies: Samphires 2 vs 5 Camp (Scorer: Sophie O’Connor(2))

The senior ladies played first home game on Sunday afternoon versus Camp. Unfortunately conditions were appalling with high winds making it almost impossible to play football. Camp made however full use of the  wind in the first half and were 3 up at half time. The 2nd half was a more even affair….and it finished 5 – 2 to Camp with both our goals coming from Sophie O Connor. But today was not about football as it was more about trying to contend with the conditions. There will be finer, calmer days ahead for this group of ladies who can play really good football. Great credit must be given to the 12 girls who turned up to represent their club on the day.

Senior Men: Castlegregory 1 v 1 Samphires (Scorer Ger McCarthy)

We lost our winning league run last Sunday in Castlegregory in a tough game in a swirling wind which made football difficult. Ger put us ahead but we conceded in the second half to leave it 1 all at the end.

Senior Men: Ballyhar Dynamos 4 v 3 Samphires (Scorers Ger McCarthy, Dara Heim, Keavan McElligott)

2 bad results in a row for us so Christmas has come at an opportune time to recharge the batteries. We found ourselves 3 down in the first half after a ragged performance combined with some poor defensive errors. We came into the game and got it back to 3 all, then went after the winner and got caught on the break by Ballyhar. A big day too for young Billy Walsh who made his debut for the team and did very well. So the last couple of weeks have been rough on us but the season overall has gone well and we are nicely placed in the league. Happy Christmas to all involved in the team, have a good Christmas and come back refreshed.

U15 Boys: Inter Kenmare 6 v 0 Samphires

A poor end to the year, losing badly to the top team in the division. Despite the result, we did a lot of things well, playing out from the back in general was quite good. But when it didn’t work we were badly exposed by a team that pressed well. Our transition to defend needs attention and hopefully we will take steps to correct it in the new year. Happy Christmas to all the boys who have put in a good year. We’ll have better days in the new year.

U14 Girls: Samphires 2 v 2 Killarney Celtic (Scorers: Grace Reilly and Meah Carmody)

Well done to the girls on a spirited performance for our first home game of the season against Killarney Celtic. There was some disappointed girls at the final whistle as we conceded two late goals which resulted in us drawing the game but every girl should be very proud of themselves in how they played against the usual strong Killarney team and the usual winter elements.  We were tight on numbers on the day and Killarney had the option of bringing on fresher legs as our girls began to tire which ultimately cost us the full 3 points.
Our defence of Anna, Ava, Mai, Grace and Heather dealt with the strong wind in the first half with our goal keeper Anna Chute coming off her line really well.  Special mention Mia O’Connor at centre back in particular who was outstanding all game making countless covering tackles and coming away with the ball almost everytime.  Blathnaid Walsh worked tirelessly in midfield along with Meah, Grace O’D and Meave. For Blathnaid’s first year playing the game she is making great strides . Well done to scorers Grace R and Meah on two well taken goals.
Thanks to the u13 girls Aoife, Sarah and Alisha for playing up an age, Alisha was really unlucky not to score in the 2nd half hitting the post from a tight angle. Finally thanks to Kevin Deady for helping out on the sideline.
Thats it for games for 2021. Well done again to all the girls on a solid start to the season. We train for last time before Christmas this coming Wednesday 7 to 8 in Ardfert.
Happy Christmas to everyone and thanks to all the parents for your continued support.

Boys U14’s Div 1: Samphires 7 vs 2 Ballyhar (Scorers: Robert O’Shea, Cillian O’Brien, Dara Harty, Mikey Corridan(2), Luke O’Carroll, Sean Cronin)
U14’s got a much needed win against Ballyhar Saturday morning. It was a well contested game but Fenit put on pressure from the start and score through a fine shot from Robert O’Shea. We went further ahead after a nice inter-change and shot from distance by Cillian O’Brien. Ballyhar pulled one back but Fenit went further ahead through Dara Harty, two from Mikey Corridan and one from Luke O’Carroll. 6-1 at half-time.
2nd was more even with Ballyhar put on the pressure with the wind but Gary Egan in goal and the back four of Austin Donnellan, Paddy Hanafin, Diarmuid Murphy and Sean Cronin defended strongly. Ballyhar finally scored another but Samphires fought back again and scored from Sean Cronin after a fine run into the box from Conor McGibney. Full-time 7-2. Best for us was Conor McGibney but good performance from all.

Boys U12s: Samphires 4 v 1 Tralee Dynamos (Scorers Cody Deady(2), Cillian O’Brien(2))

Samphires finish the Calendar year unbeaten and top of the table following a 4-1 victory away at Tralee Dynamos. Despite dominating the entire game this match was only decided in the last 5 mins mainly due to the brilliance of the Dynamos keeper and some poor Fenit finishing. The score was locked at 1 – 1, a Cody Deady goal and an own goal by Fenit keeping the sides level. However with 5 mins left Cody Deady not for the first time this season came up with a real poachers finish to put us 2-1 ahead. With confidence now high Cillian O’Brien struck 2 further goals to leave the final score 4-1.

Boys U11s:

Well done to all the boys yesterday in our games away versus Listowel. These were two very competitive and physical games in a very tight pitch which really tested our lads team work, close control and passing and our lads did very well with more work to do on the training pitch…That’s it for games for 2021. We train for last time before Christmas this coming Monday 6 to 7 in Ardfert.  Happy Christmas to everyone….thanks to all the parents for your continuing support.

Boys U9s/10s:

Well done to our u10s and u9s who played games against Ballyheigue FC in Ardfert astro on Sunday afternoon. All the lads had plenty of game time and enjoyed themselves. Thanks to Ballyheigue for hosting us and looking forward to returning the favour in the new year…
