Boys U15s: Samphires 0 v 1 Kenmare

Samphires played Kenmare in Fenit in a top of the table clash in our last game of the league. We lost badly to our opponents in the reverse fixture before Christmas so we had a lot to prove and though we couldn’t catch Kenmare we were still playing for second place in the league. It started very poorly for us and we were 1 down in the first minute after a poor kick out followed by a poor pass then a poor attempt at defending in front of our box invited a shot which ended up in our net. Our boys didn’t drop their heads though and fought their way into the game and both teams really went at it for the rest of the game which was appreciated by the sizeable crowd. We created a few clear chances in the first half and really should have equalised but we fluffed our lines in front of goals. The second half followed along the same pattern, both teams on top at various times with Kenmare slightly on top in the 3rd quarter and us finishing the stronger as we chased an equaliser but Kenmare defended well and kept us out to win 1 nil. Still it was a good performance by our squad against a very good team and our lads can be happy enough with the performance. Finally we would like to congratulate Kenmare on winning the division. The are deserving champions.

Girls 12s: Iveragh 9 v 1 Samphires (Scorer Abi Kearney)

Samphires came up against a strong Iveragh team and whereas effort as always was top drawer, Iveragh took the points…on to the next game!

Boys U12s: Samphires 1 v 1 Park B (Scorer Cody Deady)

Fenit Samphires U12’s returned to league action on Saturday battling to a 1-1 draw against Park to remain unbeaten for the season. We struggled for the first half of a very tight match going in at HT 1-0 behind following a fortuitous Park goal. The second half was much better from the home side and we eventually managed to equalise through Cody Deady with a great effort onto the top corner. Despite being well on top for most of the second half, apart from the goal Samphires never really threatened the Park keeper and the game ended all square which was probably a fair result. As with all our games this season our defence was again outstanding and we have only conceded 5 goals in 8 games – great effort again by everyone. MOTM Conor O’Sullivan
