Mike Crean…3rd from the right, back row

Condolences: The club would like to send our condolences to the family of Mike Crean who passed away recently. Mike, or Larry, as some would know him, was heavily involved with the club especially in the early days when the club was in it’s infancy, both on and off the pitch. He played in goals with the senior team, he was a very agile and brave goalkeeper and saved us many times. Off the pitch he was instrumental with Tucker and a few others in the development of the club and in particular, the pitch in Fenit. He did a lot of the work that had to be done turning the pitch from a very rocky field of thorns and long grass into the facility we have now. It was Mike who chose the type of grass we play on today. He went to the trouble of getting a special grass from the east coast for the pitch which was the same type of grass that was used in Croke Park at the time. Since those early days, he was always available to the club whenever we needed some help. We were very lucky to have had a such man so committed to the club. Ar Dheis Dé Lena Anam Dilís.

Girls U12s Prem : Listowel Celtic 2 v 1 Samphires

After taking a slender 1 nil lead just before half time and after some stout defending we were outdone by a unfortunate penalty and a second soon after. We had the league leaders on the ropes for large periods. Every player was outstanding and bodes well for our upcoming cup games. Up Samphires 👏⚽.

Boys U10s: We played Listowel Celtic last Saturday in sunny Fenit with the 10s. We were quite poor in the 1st quarter, with the lads at sixes and sevens. The trainers put a bit of structure on them at the break and the boys took quite a lot of it on board. Elliot and Shane at the back improved a good bit positionally. Ben who was the best player on view also steadied the ship as cdm in fron of the defence. Luke was on the wing at this point and made an impact. Liam in goals did very well and cleaned up a lot of loose ball behind the defence. Cathal on the wing got better as the game progressed and won a lot of ball for us. John and Daragh up front were a thorn in Listowel’s side and were a constant threat. We had the benefit of the slope in 2nd half and Ben got a hat trick for us but the players all improved again positionally and tackling wise. So well done to all the lads who showed that with a good attitude and plan, we can be competitive.

U15 Barcelona Cup: Well done to Aaron Harty and Jayden Deady who played for Kerry in Barcelona in the Barcelona Cup last weekend. Playing against teams from around Europe, Kerry played very well and won out the tournament having won their group, winning all their matches on the way, progressing to the final which they won on penalties. Aaron though he didn’t score, had a number of assists to his name and Jayden captained the team in some of the matches with both playing very well throughout. Well done boys.
