Boys U16s: Samphires 2 v 0 Iveragh (Scorers: Aaron Harty, Cian McKenna)

The 16s had a good win last Saturday after a tough test from Iveragh in the second of 5 games fixed for Fenit on the day. In general throughout the game we had a good share of possession and we showed an improvement in attack from previous games. Aaron scored after 20 minutes after a great through ball from Jayden and came close on another few occasions. Noah and Bobby up front also threatened, keeping the Iveragh back 4 in their own half for most of the game. Coming up to half time Iveragh broke out and our defence had to be on their game to keep our clean sheet. In previous games we had lapses in concentration which cost us but we were more decisive on this occasion. 2nd Half. After an initial burst from Iveragh we had a lot of the possession but Iveragh defended well and kept us to shots from outside the box. We didn’t breach our opponents goals until 10 minutes to go when Cian finished the game with our second after Charlie pounced on a defensive error. Iveragh came back at us for the remainder of the game and hit the bar but we held out with our 2 centre backs Jack Mac and Jack Nolan in top form.

Boys U14s: St Brendan’s Park 4 – 0 Samphires
A disappointing result against the top team in the league on Friday night. Park were without a number of regulars but the players who came in stepped up and we couldn’t live with their intensity and pressing throughout the game. We lacked the ability to break tackles and pass the ball quickly and accurately enough to get out of the press. Too often we ended up dribbling into traffic and losing the ball. On the defensive side we didn’t press Park to the same extent and thus they were able to dominate the game. Despite this most of the goals conceded were from defensive mistakes on our side. The first was a free header at a corner and the second a defensive mistake. 2-0 at half-time…In the 2nd half Park scored from a break away but we had two opportunities to cut out the passing and it was a poor goal to give away on our side. The fourth goal was a great strike from distance into the top corner. No complaints we were beaten by a better team on the night. We are not a million miles away from Park but we need to learn to press with intensity and to pass quicker.
Best for Fenit was Alan O’Connor at centre half who had a fine game despite the score line.

Boys U14B: Samphires 1 vs 8 Ballyheigue

The Boys 14s B team had a tough day at the office on Saturday in the early kickoff. Our opponents were at a different level to us and try as we did, we couldn’t quite get to the pitch of the game. Nevertheless our boys kept trying to the end. Hard luck lads, but keep up the training and things will get better.

Girls U13s vs Camp Dec 22

U13 Girls: Fenit Samphires 1 v 0 Camp (Scorer Ava Flaherty)

A real hard earned victory this morning against a very solid Camp team. The girls had to dig deep and showed their character by holding out for the victory after late pressure by the opposition after a first half goal by Ava. Thanks to Camp for a sporting game and well done to every member of the squad whose hard work paid off to see us take the 3 pts👏👏⚽⚽.

Boys U12s: Dingle Bay Rovers 2 v Samphires (Scorers: Cody Deady(3),  Jack Corridon, Zach Kearney.

Samphires started off with great determination to get to every ball and pressed very well. 1st goal was from Zach with a strike from outside the box to slot it past an outstretched keeper to put us 1 up. A few minutes later Dingle got a penalty from a handball, but even with a well struck ball our keeper Patrick pulled off a fantastic save to keep it 1 nil. After a short time Dingle pressed well and got a goal back. Then Eamon Og played a perfect placed ball from a corner to the edge of the box where Cody vollied it home to put us up 2-1 at half time. 2nd Half: Dingle pressed hard from kick off to make it 2-2 almost immediately from the kick off. Our boys then started to pass the ball well and got back into the game. Cody struck the ball well to put us back in front 3-2. Not long after, Jack hit the back of the net from outside the box to make it 4-2, with Evan, Josh and Eoin defending well to keep the 2 goal lead as Dingle pushed hard. 2 minutes left and a cross from Cormac to Hugo onto Eoin who played a ball to Cody who made it 5-2. We played well, putting in a fantastic team performance who passed the ball well around the pitch. Well done to all players today. Keep up the hard work.

Boys U12s B Samphires 1 v 1 Listowel Celtic C

Well done to the 12s who played Listowel last weekend and again our lads showed improvement. Our team, which has a number of 11s playing, are showing a better understanding of positioning on the field and an increased willingness to pass the ball rather than dribbling all the time. It was a tough game with both teams coming close to scoring more goals but defences were on top. Keep up the good work at training boys and keep listening to your coaches.
