U14s Vs Mastergeeha April 2023

U14 Boys: Mastergeeha 1 v 2 Samphires (Scorers Dara Harty, Mikey Corridan)
A great result and a battling performance brought us back from 1-0 down to win in this fixture towards the top of the table. We started slowly and Mastergeeha were on top. We struggled with the tight pitch and the energy and athleticism from the home team. They went ahead after we failed to clear and the ball was crossed for their centre forward to finish. Mastergeeha were on the front foot and the defence of Luke O’Carroll, Diarmuid Murphy, Alan O’Connor and Danny Gazi had to work hard to keep them out with Eoin Mangan in goal making some good saves. 2nd Half: We upped our intensity and the midfield of Cillian O’Brien, Austin Donellan, Ben Litchfield, Karol Kowalczyk and Conor Nolan started to compete and win some ball. From a free-kick Dara Harty looped the ball into the corner of the goal to make it 1-1. Bothe sides had chances, but we struck with 5 minutes to go when after a penalty appeal the subsequent corner was headed home by Mikey Corridan to seal the three points. A great win for the final performance of the season and it guarantees 2nd place in the league.

U14 Boys Cup Listowel Celtic 3 vs 2 Samphires (Scorers Dara Harty, Cillian O’Brien)
We bowed out of the Cup in a thrilling game which was end to end. We were without a number of players and were down to just 11 but the players who came in played really well and fought for every ball. We started the game brightly and created a number of chances before Dara Harty clipped a fine finish over the keeper to make it 1-0. Cillian O’Brien added a 2nd after a defensive mix-up. Listowel however were dangerous on the left hand side of their attack and Luke O’Carroll, Diarmuid Murphy, Tom Lenihan, and Danny Gazi had to battle hard to keep them out with Eoin Mangan in goal pulling off 2 fine saves to keep it at 0-2 at half-time.
In the 2nd half Listowel fought back and we tired slightly. They scored one after a defensive mistake and then equalized through a penalty. Both sides had chances and we had a goal disallowed for a very dubious offside call. Into extra time both teams went for it and it was end to end. Listowel got the breakthrough when their centre forward who was clearly offside was allowed play on and despite another fantastic save from Eoin in goals the rebound fell kindly for the Listowel player to prod home. We threw everything at Listowel to get an equalizer but despite a number of chances it just wouldn’t go in. Great credit to all our boys who played their hearts out.
